Unhappy Mach headlights flaking

My headlights are starting to lose some kind of clearcoat on the sides in the dark area. Anyone else having this happen? I keep my car garaged so I'm a little amazed the sun could be causing this. Anyway to fix this?

Also if it can't be fixed where can I find OEM replacement lights. I don't like any of the aftermarket.

Re: Mach headlights flaking

Mine did it and they were replaced under warranty. It's the outermost layer of plastic coming off. I picked up a set of very used OEM headlights from a member here to have as a backup, only to have the headlights replaced (again!) after last years hurricane Gustav. I'd say that there are a few options; a good set of used headlights, I'm sure there are a few sets out there. Next woudl be going through a dealer (member ITLRUN would be a good source) based Ford parts department. Last would be an aftermarket set of factory style headlights. I see them in many late model catalogs, but I cannot vouch for their durability.

Re: Mach headlights flaking

Mine did the same thing but this nice 17 yr. old girl decided to take her daddy's big red suv and hit my front end thus replacing them The body shop guy got them from the ford dealer.

Re: Mach headlights flaking

Mine did the same thing, plus the pitting from road debris over the years. I just replaced them a few weeks ago with smoked OEM replacements from American Muscle. Cosmetically, they look just like the originals did when they were new, how long they'll look like that, IDK.

Re: Mach headlights flaking

I'm working on my 4th set in 6 years, crappiest headlights, I have ever seen. They will also get a condensation build up.

Re: Mach headlights flaking

My passenger side headlight is looking pretty bad, but the driver side is as good as new. I may try to work it out a little later on today to see if I can make it any better, it won't cost anything but the time.

Re: Mach headlights flaking

Wow, I had no idea this was such an issue. I have found some aftermarket that look very close to original.

Re: Mach headlights flaking

You could take them out and sand them down with sand paper, like 1000, 1500 then 2000 and re-clearcoat them. I did it last year and it turned out pretty well for a rush job. If I had taken more time I think they would have looked new.
