Can GM T-56 guts swap into Ford T-56?

So as far as I can tell there's absolutly no performance advantage to swapping my Mach 1s' 5-Speed for a Cobra 6-Speed. The only thing the Cobra 6-Speed offers is a tweener overdrive gear that halves the massive drop off of the current 5-Speed. Both O/D ratios are virtually the same.
So if I went 6-Speed I would much rather have the GM ratios ending with a .5 overdrive so I could combine that transmission ratios with a significant rear gear ratio bump. Like 4.30s or something.

Current Mach 1 has 3.55s which in the stock .62 O/D ratio puts its' final drive ratio at 2.20

Mach 1 with 4.30 gears and the GM .5 ratio makes the final drive ratio 2.15.

All the gears in between get a nice torque multiplier jump especially 2nd through 4th for faster acceleration with no loss in cruising RPM and gas MPG.

So is swapping Ford and GM T-56 guts possible?
