Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
Just remember that our syncros have carbon fiber, cardboard, and brass in them. The reason why it's not recommeded to use full synethetic is because it is too slippery. I used it anyway 'cause the non synthetic was not good ESPECIALLY with the thick transfix.
I went through the whole process. My experience (what worked for me) is: If you have a new transmission, ditch the transfix or use very little. Just use mobil 1 synthetic ATF underfilled at 3.2 qts. If you use the transfix be careful of how much you add becasue it is VERY thick...which will give you shifting issues until it warms up and liquifies.

Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
I went with 3L of Mobil1 ATF. Tranny shifts perfectly.

I was at the Atlanta NMRA races today and asked the guys at the Tremec booth and they said Mobil1 ATF is fine.

Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
Is this the mobil1 you guys are talking about?
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...T|GRP2071_____ And I would need 3 bottles total of this plus the lucas additive?

Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
Here's some answers received from Rob Shepard of Tremec this morning, regarding my TR3650 out of an '04 Mach 1:
1. All transmissions built for the 2004 model year will have the parts for TSB 04-15-6 already installed. 2. Tremec recommends Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF and filling the unit until the fluid starts coming out of the fill plug (on level ground, ofcourse). Should be around 6.31 pints. |

I think when I put my new transmission in this month, I'm going to use 3 quarts of Mobil 1, and then use a half a bottle of Lucas Tranny Fix. Which will put me a hair over 3L

Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
Its pretty popular. Its in a white cone bottle. So I'm sure you'll find it there next to all the other additives.

Last page says it all. Our 3650 came from the factory with Mobil 1. Due to shifting issues Tremec revised the specification to 3.0L Dexron III, hence the TSB. I would go with what Tremec specifies before using a "special sauce" |

Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
I did this yesterday used mobile syn atf and the lucas trans fix stuff(witch is as thick as glue btw) and it seems to shift smoother but I only put about 15miles on it so will see the stuff that came out looked like black motor oil and smelled like burnt tranny fluid(out of an auto) One tip i would say is if you can take off your shifter then do that and pour it in through the top!!!!! trust me it will be way faster and less of a pain in the a$$ then to try and pump that lucas ***** into the fill hole!!!!!!

Good point, I always forget to mention that method as i did mine the same time I put my new shifter in. Does make it really simple.

Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
I'm a secret sauce fan. 1 bottle of Lucas the rest Mobil 1.
But then again I'm a shock proof guy. Read on that and wow. Ran it in my evo and she made 686awhp . 9 sec car Differential I run shockproof mixed with 75-90 bout 30/70 mix.

Re: Which fluid to use in TR-3650?
On promotions recommendation I have always run merc atf. Non synthetic with their additive.
The only manuals I know that run gear oil are face plated units. |
