Average life span of clutch?
Obviously how you drive the car makes a huge difference. But let's assume the driver is experienced with a stick shift, and drives the car daily without romping on the throttle constantly. How long, on average, is the stock clutch going to last?

I agree, depends how you drive, but I’ve known of at least two Mach owners that had over 75k miles when they had a clutch job. What’s funny is in those cases, they seemed to complain more about throw out bearing noise. I’m sure the clutch was worn out, but I know that stock clutch is pretty robust.

Re: Average life span of clutch?
Reason I ask is because I'm at 129,000 and I don't think the clutch has ever been changed on this car. I got all the service records, and I don't see any mention of a clutch job.
The clutch engages well, pulls hard, and makes zero bearing noise. So I'm trying to decide if I should just keep riding it out until something changes, or go ahead and replace it as a preventative measure.

Re: Average life span of clutch?
Leave it alone. So called preventative changing of a clutch makes no sense on a street car and just cost you money. If you do it now it will cost the same thing as if you wait till it wears out.

Re: Average life span of clutch?
my only thought is that when the clutch pads wear off, the rivets are going to chew into the flywheel.
the diagram below demonstrates the optimal time to replace the clutch as preventative maintenance to maintain flywheel integrity while maximizing the life of the clutch itself: |

Re: Average life span of clutch?
When I replaced my clutch (due to TOB noise) at 88k (huge mistake), there was well over half of the material left. This is on a car that is driven daily, not abused but did have about a dozen 1/4 mile runs on it.
Not going back with a Ford clutch has created issues that may never go away, and may have caused accelerated wear/damage to other items.

Re: Average life span of clutch?
Haha.
Apparently my oil filter adapter gasket is leaking all over my K-member, so I have decided to leave the clutch alone for now and focus on other more pressing issues. Thanks guys.
