switching from Steeda Tri-Ax to MGW short throw shifter

I've been considering swapping the Steeda Tri-Ax to a MGW short throw. I've always had steeda short throw shifters in all my Mustangs, but have always heard that the MGW ones are the best.
Anyone else made the switch or had both of them and would like to give some feedback.

Re: switching from Steeda Tri-Ax to MGW short throw shifter

I would say the Pro 5.0 and Steeda are pretty comparable. I had a Pro 5.0 then went to an MGW. The switch was about as big as going from stock to Pro 5.0. It took me a few days to get used to it (I was no longer sure what gear I was in just by hand position)

So your saying the MGW was way better and you would suggest that one over the others?

Re: switching from Steeda Tri-Ax to MGW short throw shifter

Thanks both of you, i'll be adding it to my list of mods. I am really wanting to focus on suspension stuff right now, but may get the shifter before the other stuff.

Honestly, I won't need to drive it. If it is a shorter throw, then it is worth getting it imo. My 2013 was what I would call a true short throw. The factory shifter felt like a short throw already, then after adding a short throw it was insane how short it was.

Re: switching from Steeda Tri-Ax to MGW short throw shifter

I've had the MGW since 05 or 06 and still really like it. They are really stiff at first and eventually loosen up. Will note that they changed the design since I bought mine and a friend who bought one didn't care for it. He then drove my car and said he wished they hadn't changed the design because he liked how mine felt.

Re: switching from Steeda Tri-Ax to MGW short throw shifter

I've heard that as well about the newer design. Mine is the newer design and is still pretty stiff. Honestly, I've always wanted to try a Tri-Ax, just didn't want to buy one to do it.

Re: switching from Steeda Tri-Ax to MGW short throw shifter

I swapped out a pro5.0 for an mgw on my 94 way back when. It was a well crafted piece but I didn't like how heavy the springs were. Iirc the handle was too short for my liking also. My M1 has had the tri-ax since new. I love it and will not be switching for anything other than another tri-ax if something bizarre should happen to this one.

We might have to do a swap if I like the feel of MGW, will be finding out soon what it feels like on another members Mach.

Re: switching from Steeda Tri-Ax to MGW short throw shifter

As others have said the MGW is really stiff when new and takes some getting used to. I have MGW shifters and I love them. The only thing that is really bad when they are new is getting into reverse. That spring is STIFF when new. Once you break it in and get used to it though, man it is GREAT.
