You know how wires get dry or brittle from the heat under the hood...is there anything you can put on the wires to keep the insulation flexible?

Re: PA performance premium power wire upgrade DIY

I guess a piece of plastic wire loom ??? I searched around here and no country store had 1/2" loom so I didn't use any.

I've bought wire loom online before, but I didn't have to worry about any heat. I'm assuming they sell high temp wire loom. I guess if there isn't any loom over the factory wires, then maybe I don't even need to worry about it..?

Re: PA performance premium power wire upgrade DIY

You make sense since original alt wire is in a loom, I always figured it was more for neatness than anything else.

Re: PA performance premium power wire upgrade DIY

They have some fiberglass wire loom for cutting down heat. My friend just used it on the oil feed lines for his turbo build.

You could use something like this too:

Thanks for the link! I'll be looking into this. I wonder if they would be willing to send a small sample to get an idea of how it looks..?

Worth a shot, they sent me a sample of ring terminals
I found this place looks like they may sell by the foot

http://www.electriduct.com/Self-Clos...ided-Wrap.html

I am guessing for the #4 gage wire would need 1/2" ??

I will be ordering from here

Got mine done. I did the same thing and just ran the stock cable above the 4 gauge cable. I'm seeing 14.0 volts on my datalog now at idle. Its never seen that. Sweet upgrade!

I used marine battery cable I got for $1.50 a foot.
