Well shoot, I may as well help out an old thread too.

I'm 31 .. And I have a problem with Mustangs.

82 GLX
95 Mustang GT (poor baby got totalled)
97 Mustang GT (traded)
2000 Mustang Convertible (traded)
2004 Mach 1

Growing up my dad has a 64 1/2 coupe (restored/stolen) and a 65 Fastback (sold). He also seemed to really like Ford Mavericks. Luckily that one didn't wear off on me.

I'm your basic 49 year old Southern California Kid. Still working out at the gym, fit and feeling more like 25......and that's before I get behind the wheel of the Mach 1. After I get in the car I'm about nineteen.

I have to admit though that installing my own MagnaFlow X-pipe and cat back probably wasn't as fun as it would have been 30 years ago.......

All Mavericks fans (the car, not the basketball team) please forgive me.

I just always thought it was the Mustangs ugly sister is all. Not that they aren't quick, or special to some people. But, to each his own (and my dad still loves them).

My opinion on that is that the marketing strategy and economic structure back in the late 60's and 70's was much different than today. Young people are making more money and credit is more obtainable and a way of life. Boss 302's, 429's and Cobras back then were limited production cars, very few made and they really weren't streetable as the new high performance models today. Technology has a big part to play in that. Take a 427 L88 Corvette giving you three to four miles to a gallon, you can't sit in traffic with it, play the radio and be comfortable because of the heat it generated. With today's high performance cars you can do the quarter mile in less 13 secs, sit in traffic for four hours with the air conditioning and sound system on and still get 25-28 miles to the gallon. That's a big accomplishment. As far as the Mach 1, Ford still kept that tough look opposed to the Cobra. That layered cake hood with the shaker scoop on it has a masculine appeal to it. The younger generation go after the Cobras because they are more affordable than some of the exotics, but still have exotic goodies, they pumped out a lot of them and Ford made them with a cleaner design, lower and better handling plus a plush interior. All that, and all they need to spend is about $4,000-$5,000 more than the GT. So marketing plays a big factor, and living off the old Cobra and Boss 429 Mustang, they created in today's market a top selling Mustang to blow the sales off of Camaro and Firebird. As far as the Mach 1, this two year run will definitely make this car more desirable than the '69 and '70 was. As far as us old timers, brings back memories of the pony car era, with the sounds and hemi like Boss 429 Mustang. We don't have the privilege of waiting around for this to become a classic, although I wonder. A two year run with very low production, and the most stylish Mustang they have ever built, in my opinion, might just be a classic within its own era. Actually, when you think about it, it is a classic within its own era.

I'm 46 years "young"! (At least that's what I keep telling the wife.) I've had at least one Mustang at any given time since '73, including 3 Mach1's. On my 6th now, and have my two favorites in the garage anxiously waiting for the snow to melt. .......Oh yea, forgot to tell ya.....I'm a biker too, and 46 in biker years is like 93! hehe I been slowing down the last couple of years.

Well guys, 61 years young here....bought my first Mustang in 1965, a silver coupe, 4-speed with HP289 engine. Being driving Mustangs a long time, the Mach 1 is the best I've had yet!
I'm probably in my 3rd childhood by now and loving every day of it.

Cobras & Mach 1s

Hey P Machy:

I bet some of us older guys have both a Cobra and a Mach 1! Increased discretionary income and all.

You can never have too many Mustangs:THUMBSUP:

Happy Holidays.
