Re: Eaton Swap.....

What kinda boost levels is everyone running safely on a stock bottom end?
What is the hp/tq GAINS you are seeing with the eaton swap (+90hp...+120hp!?)

When doing the eaton are you guys having them ported and such like the Cobra guys do, or would that be too much power for the stock Mach block!?

Pretty much the last thing i need to know before i start the swap. Where does the IAT2 sensor get wire to the harness?

I can't say before dyno #, but assuming I was at 300/300 which is pretty common for bolt on machs, It was more like +140/+130.

I thought about having mine ported, but didn't have the money. Porting I don't feel would hurt as it's making the power more efficiently rather than adding more boost which would hurt. I think 1 or 2 had a stg. 1 port, but nothing bigger than that.

Cut the outside two wires from the maf and run them to either the iat1 or iat2 sensor. I chose to do the iat2 which would be post blower temps.

Re: Eaton Swap.....

I am planning on starting on my parts search by the end of the year, and was curious. Ive got 98 cobra intake cams, how will these perform with FI? And esp. with a eaton/whipple, maybe kb.

Thanks!

Re: Eaton Swap.....

I might consider selling my stock long block and buying an '04 cobra long block once I have the car paid off next year. The engine swap sounds like the cheapest and easiest route to take. I'm not sure how much money I could get for my stock engine but I would imagine a fair amount, considering it will have under 40k miles on it next year.

Re: Eaton Swap.....

^^^ I'd give a little more thought about adding the weight of that cast iron block, plus the weight of the blower and accessories to the front end of the Mach. The Aluminator gives you all the benefits of the Cobra engine with the weight advantage of being all aluminum. Less filling, tastes great!

Re: Eaton Swap.....

I guess I could pull the rods and pistons out of the cobra shortblock and swap them into the mach aluminum block, then swap over the upper half of the cobra engine. There's so many options that one could go with.

Most of the differences are in the bottom end, not the top end. The top half of a Terminator and Mach 1 motor are pretty much identical.

Re: Eaton Swap.....

Yes I know, but it's probably easier to buy the whole thing rather than piecing together parts.

Re: Eaton Swap.....

or just buy a swap kit for alittle over 2 grand. and run 8/9lb of boost
Swap kit is better, then that would allow you to save up for a new shortblock if you need one. I had alittle over 3500 in my swap how ever I done some other stuff, and I just got my whipple in today so its early christmas

Re: Eaton Swap.....

If I could get everything I need as far as the eaton setup goes for around $2000 that would be a good deal. I mainly just want to quit using nitrous. Right now I'm making 422hp 504tq on a 100 shot and I would like to make somewhere around that with the blower. Though I have a goal of hitting 11's N/A before I do anything.

Re: Eaton Swap.....

So based on what I have read, I am better off using the Mach wiring even though I have the cobra harness?

Re: Eaton Swap.....

Sorry to jack thread, I was curious to know why you have to grind down the block slightly to accpet the 03-04 Intake manifold? why is that, is that just an option or is that mandatory? all though everything was a direct fit, since the mach's use 03-04 Cobra Heads to begin with.

It's because of the knock sensor bungs. They stick up too far and hit the intake.

You only have to modify two sensors on the Mach harness I believe, so you might as well sell the Cobra harness and make some money back.

Because the cast iron Cobra block doesn't have them.

ok, I understand now. I'd Probably just end up doing a Cobra Harness swap and ECU.

No need to use the Cobra harness or computer. Have you read any of the information in this thread?
