Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

While you have the trans out, make sure to check the end play in the input shaft just for good measure. It may already be perfect but if someone else installed a 26 spline shaft I know I would want to check it just to be sure. Spec will be .000-.002 and shim kits are available from Lethal if needed.

Thanks, great info, this is a classic reason why a build thread is a must

Curious how your times are going to compare after the eaton swap. They do have a fun powerband to drive around town.

Don't forget the head cooling mod.

Never really got a good P1 time since I always seem to have something off...tune, tire, clutch slip etc...I have to just go with my PB of 12 flat and 7.99

Have you thought about studding the heads while the engine is out?

Congrats! When I saw that drivetrain for sale, I could do nothing but dream and wish. lol. I'm looking forward to watching your progress and hope you get some really great numbers out of your new combo. Love to do the same one day, but will have to live vicariously through you until then. haha.

Jamie R is bringing cobra tank tomorrow so I can wire the pumps to the hat. PLEASE..advice/help in wiring these up, as well how to do the delete. Do you solder wires, spade connectors? Which wires..starting from scratch here so please help out..thanks guys !!

Fun build Larry, wish you were closer I'd help. From the looks of it, this is an HPP build and has many of the normal upgrades that they commonly do. Head cooling mod being one of them.

Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

Thanks Darrell..I got some more stuff in today

My exchanger came in, the way it is setup with the mounting tabs, in order to mount with inlet/outlet on passenger side, the drain valve is on top !! If I flip it around the tabs have it about 2" away from radiator..should it be a gap like that between the exchanger and radiator? If I do it the first way, the 2 bottom tabs line up perfect with 2 holes on the bottom

It would go here, then I could run some flat aluminum to the top tabs and out to the sides, this way there is about an inch gap between top tab and radiator so would need to space it out and not overjoyed with metal on the radiator so probably cover with rubber??

Jamie brought me top hat with pumps and tank, I showed 01 yeller Cobra pic and he said it already had GT pumps, plus all wiring is perfect, all I have to do is cut off Delphi connectors, solder on male spades and plug right in. I will also do delete and I am cleaning out tank right where the socks sit, had varnish from old gas

Soaking in B12, then will rinse with water, and stick a hair dryer in to dry. I have to fine some pics of putting pumps in, not sure what side sending unit is on when pump is in, and also in relation to the tube in the tank (whatever that is).

Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

I wouldn't sweat the drain petcock. It's not like you'll be draining it all the time. And it's not hard to pull a hose to drain it. The tank I'm sending you has a drain valve in it so you can drain the tank at least.

Thanks man, I am still in process of fabbing brackets for exchanger, gonna get 2 pieces flat aluminum for top mounts. I got my alternator back (200A), and starter back.Transferred evap lines to Cobra tank and cleaned it out, in process of mounting pumps and PPRV delete, also got in TOB and pilot bearing along with Reverse Lockout box. Since I am using my harness, got 2 add a circuits for IC pump and electric waterpump.

Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

so will your intercooler pump always be operated by a switch then? If not I would highly suggest adding one so you can circulate cold water through it while in the staging lanes and such

Good idea..I was going to just do an add a circuit to a Key on fuse, switch would be an easy addition.

Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

Question.I didn't remove pumps so I don't know what side the float is on when you put pump in the tank (Cobra, dual pumps)

Using the above pic, what is the correct procedure putting pumps back in and when correct, where is the float positioned? Thanks in advance.

Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

if using the factory hat for the cobra pumps I believe the sender will only bolt on one way, the feed line on the hat will point to the front of the car if I recall correctly.

edit - i wanna even the bolt holes arent evenly spaced to help prevent the hat from being installed wrong...the float goes off to the side but I really dont remember if its to the driver or pass side, I wanna say to the right in your picture (opposite side of the hump the pcv stuff goes into)

Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

I have 6 hours in mounting the heat exchanger today. It was not a stock piece, FrozenBoost Type 118 I mounted on the bottom core support right above the wind deflector, so you can imagine the joy in trying to hold nut with thin needlenose in the small gap from the back side. Up top I bought a 4 ft piece of 3/8" steel and ran one from each top mount to the side next to bumper supprt squares. Since bottom is flush, I shimmed the top ones and have a flush bolt on radiator side with foam from gas tank as a cushion between bolt and radiator. I made it where top is dead even with the bottom of metal bumper, left room if later I want to add 3 computer fans rigged in series for in staging lanes

Re: notagt's 03 Ported Eaton/Cobra/T56 swap

Well, sat in my LR last night for another 5+ hours and installed pumps and check valve delete. Man there just isn't alot of room to work with. Thanks to 01 yeller for all my texts and the help. I crimped and soldered blade connectors and heat shrunk everything. I just did delete on check valve only (lesson for others: You may not want to waste $80 like I did on Lethal performance kit..I used one piece of hose and thats it...ONE hose). I used the stock Y and removed corrugated hose from pumps and put new pumps in with hose clamps for added security, couldn't see dealing with the nightmare of 3 hoses. Now I just have to get it in tank and put tank back in and she is ready for engine swap. Note: I have the delete kit with all the good clamps, the Y and 2 gates submersible so if needed PM and I will give you a great deal. Before and after

Pumps installed in tank, gas tank back in the car. Tomorrow is another day for a on sale item at Lethal, it is 20% off UPR catch cans and suspension. I am gonna try and get UPR adj uppers with discount and my points. Loading up car tomorrow and bringing to a friend of a friends shop to commence the swap.
