Ok, I found a kit over at Modular Depot, it has a nice block off plate for the intake and a cap for the header.

Just so everyone knows, I do know how the EGR system works and that it is there for good intentions and that it really doesnt hurt anything. But I just like removing things that I feel are dead weight and take up space. And I also can turn the system off in my Predator, so no ill effects will pop up.

Thanks everyone, still feel free to chime in, it may help someone out there.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

egr puts hot exhaust air in the intake only under normal driving, goal is for emissions, but also keeps detionation down. when you go to wot the egr doesnt put gasses in the intake, itll close off til the vac allows it to open again.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

I just removed the EGR assembly and installed the EGR block off plate/Header plug. Then I pluged the 3 vacuum lines that are disconnected. My EGR has been turned off by my tuner last year. The EGR is off at WOT anyways.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

As Phil did, it won't hurt a thing. A bad EGR is a potential problem for detonation from not closing off the flow of hot air going to the intake. The EGR is what sends the hot gases there to start with so removal (properly done) should not cause a detonation problem. The EGR is also closed at idle to prevent ROUGH idle. It only opens during partial throttle ops, unless it's broke.

It is VERY ugly.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

After the cam install, my tuner turned off the egr system. It shows up as not ready at inspection time. Suppose I could block it off.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

How much weight would be saved by taking out the EGR (not sure what it looks like or is so dont laugh)

EDIT: Also do our car have a smog pump that is one of the things belt driven off the motor (like the water pump and A/C)???

Unless I missed something all I saw for the EGR system was a tube from the exhaust to the EGR valve and the valve itself. Yes there are a couple of vaccum lines, but I would guess you would only loose about 3 lbs. I might take mine off as the tube is all rusted and looks like AZZ.

Here is a pic of the EGR delete cover for the manifold, it comes with new bolts & composite gasket. Pic of the EGR with tube & hoses which weighs 2.0 lbs. Three vacuum lines must be pluged.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

I thought we needed to leave it on but if Phil has his off then that must not be needed. I can turn my off with my predator. So should I just turn the ***** off. Sounds like it does no good but keep tree huggers happy and put exhaust fumes into my air intake.

Just turn it off.. If you have emission tests to pass, then leave it hooked up and turn it back on for the test.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

I really don't see why anyone would want to unhook the egr system unless you have a (race only car). The egr system lowers combustion chamber temps at cruise speeds by putting dead air (no o2), into the cylinders and prevents the formation of nox gases by lowering cylinder temps. And has no effect on wot as far as i know ???? but i have been wrong before.

Re: Anyone using an EGR Delete?

Phil, you can remove more stuff off the upper intake now that you got rid of the EGR. There is like 2 or 3 more things you can get rid of
