10R80 And Rear End Gears?

I'm asking here because it seams other forums have been taken over by bro science millennials. With the 10 forward gears...

1st 4.70
2nd 2.99 3-6 are pretty close from 2.15 - 1.28
7th 1.00 8 -.85 and 9 - .69
10th .64 should have been higher at least .58

If I was to go with 4.56s with having such a low 1st gear would this be a good choice? 4.09 looks to be the go to for NA builds until the torque converters are out. Also it seems like no one makes a 4.30 for the new IRS. Of course proper tires, half shafts, and chassis components would be installed already. I go for gear, suspension, chassis, and weight reduction before power.

Enlighten me!

Re: 10R80 And Rear End Gears?

A few months has gone by since your post...what did you end up doing?

You lived out here in the west previously, right? It's been awhile but I think we had some good times at the tracks if my memory is right!

I feel like that these days in general a lot of cars run way less gear than in the past. Most likely this has everything to do with the ease that we can make ridiculous power. It's not that you no longer need gear, rather it's that the trap speeds are so high you need much less gear to make it to the end of the track!
LMAO.

The other benefit is that things are more controllable with less gear. Just use plenty of converter to get the car off the line, and play with the timing to control things from there. Shoot we're all learning that from Street Outlaws, lol.

Ah yes the good old days, Fontana, Carlsbad, Irwindale, and Palmdale. How's life treating you out there? As for the gear question, I was just asking because it seemed everyone was dropping superchargers on these cars to run 10s. When the car has enough power to at least run low 11s or quicker if it could 60 ft better. I'm just an old man reliving the glory days(LOL). Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
