Get a factory short block from a gt, mark 8, mach1, explorer, expedition. Factory shortblock will be the most reliable in my opinion. Some of these will lower your compression ratio slightly. You will need to check the piston dish.

Re: short block help

check out car-part.com

I checked in the orlando area (you from FL)

cheapest saw a 78k motor 2003 mach 1 for $2500
to 16k motor for $4750

if just the short block you can buy a new one from ford for 4000

Re: short block help

nothing better than stock. Why not swap in a freshened up mach block?

Sticking with a stock bottom end is a great idea and an engine from a Marauder, mark 8, 96-01 cobra, or Aviator will work.

The compression ratio will be the same as all n/a 4v engines use the identical pistons. 2V engines will have a larger piston dish and a much lower CR.

Re: short block help

I'd still build one. Better rings, more compression, who knows... Have fun with the car even if you don't plan to power adderer it.

Stick with stock cast rods and cast crank though IMO.
