I felt so bad for this Mach 1...

Saw a relative for the first time in years this week. He had a new 04 black Mach 1 back in 04 that was absolutely beautiful! Today the car has only 44,000 miles on it but the poor thing is nearly trashed! Water spots all over it, door dings, chipped paint, a damaged front bumper held together with duct tape, the interior is filthy and I don't believe the leather seats have ever been treated with anything to preserve them. Never been waxed, engine is very grimy...nothing is as it should be anywhere. But it still runs like a scalded ape!

I was really in the dumps thinking how some people don't deserve such a fine car! I do NOT understand this kind of abuse! I mean if I had such a car all to my own it would look better than showroom! I take great pleasure in keeping my cars up & actually enjoy the hours spent washing & waxing & detailing them. Why the 150k mile 94GT keeps getting mistaken for a new car! It makes me feel good to receive compliments like that...how can some people be so abusive to such a treasure? just sad...

Some people just don't care. If it's still running it's good enough for them. I wash mine when it's not excessivly hot or cold (not often in this hell hole state) and wax it slightly more often than the passing of Halley's comet.

That's a true shame. Have seen it too many times though. I need to get something to DD so I can leave the Mach in the garage and give it the full attention and respect it deserves.

Sad but true. To some people it's just transportation, to others its a way of life.

Re: I felt so bad for this Mach 1...

I have the mach out for the weekend and I was looking at the car
taking note of the "petina" the car has gained over the years

was thinking yes the car is in grea shape and could be showroom with minor touch ups but i thought to myself

The car is still one hell of a driver... and still a great cruise in car......
Sure its not "perfect" it never really was.......

Thats the way I feel about mine. It was never perfect when I bought it, but **** close. I just try to keep it that way, but I am not afraid to drive it several times a week...I mean thats what I bought it for, to drive and enjoy! Not let it sit in the garage under a cover its entire life...

Re: I felt so bad for this Mach 1...

I am not too anal about anything! I just take pride in a clean car & I DO drive them...or how did the GT get 150,000 miles? I just don't deliberately park next to known automatic sprinklers or spill messy food inside the car & not clean it up!

My new 69 Mach 1 was our only family car for years, I pulled a tent trailer with it, drove 38 miles on dirt roads & forded streams to go camping & it still looked great after 10 years & 100k+++ miles!

OK a little bit anal as I don't park where I can get door dings! LOL...to each his own...

Some people just don't have any pride in their cars.

Re: I felt so bad for this Mach 1...

There is nothing I love more then someone walking up to my Mach at club and telling his or her friends its a garage queen, "This guy never drives this car it is way to clean, look you can eat off the engine." Its my daily driver, driven back and forth to work and will be making its first long trip to NY from Fl in August. I had a judge tell me once that I needed to change out of the DD class. I laughed....

Re: I felt so bad for this Mach 1...

When I first got mine in '08, she didn't go ANYWHERE hardly lol. Garage queen yes. Nowadays, she's more fun just to drive. I didn't buy her to just sit in the garage all day and night. I don't know what it is, but I haven't had the spirit to keep her clean everyday. I don't get to go to shows cuz i work weekends, i had to take the day off to go to my mustang clubs annual car show, to me she's NOT just another mustang, she's my baby. She still doesn't get driven in the rain or snow tho, NOOO WAY!

This is abuse not just laziness. It bothers me too, to see people who don't take care of their cars. Cleanliness is one thing, but dings, damage and filth disguest me. I like seeing a DD that is enjoyed and used but at the sametime cared for. It is a way of life I guess as Bill states. Those who treat their Machs like they were their own children seem to take the time to do the things that matter!!

The way you take care of your car (or any possession for that matter) is a reflection on yourself....atleast thats what I tell myself when I am slaving in a hot garage cleaning every inch of my car lol
