putting togather a 8-rib set-up

Prob about a 8months ago i was searching about 8-rib set ups. there was one thing i found where they did a 8-rib pulley set up by parting it togather. i believe most of the pulleys came off a F150. i know they make kits that are for swapping to 8-rib set up, but i didn't know if there was a cheaper/budget way of getting a 8-rib set up.
so if anyone has a ideal or a link to somewhere i can read, that gives part numbers please give.
Thanks

ASh

Re: putting togather a 8-rib set-up

I used this list, I machined the lip off of the water pump pulley. It is the same pulley as the Mach. I went with the Thump RR tensioner, and Reichard Racing 8 rib blower pulley, I also went with 4 Reichard idlers which required shims to work right with my KB. I picked up the Innovators West 8 rib crank pulley to finish it off. No belt slip at 18 psi.

Are u usin the same thump rrr tensioner you use w a 6rib?
I believe it's the same one used on both, looks wide enough
Would hate to buy another thump rrr tensioner

Re: putting togather a 8-rib set-up

I want to bump up to 600rwhp on a loaded dyne down the road n I've dealt slip before n it's a pita to deal w
That is why I would like to buy the part over time n then throw it on
Just don't want to deal w belt slip or if I can't hit the 600rwhp on a loaded dyno I would be happy with 580rwhp

Alright, I need to ask you a few questions! First, explain the water pump pulley deal to me. You say it's the same as the Mach, so which did you shave the lip off of? I've been wondering if the Reichard Racing blower pulley and idlers would work on a KB 2.1 setup. I'm assuming you replaced both the KB idlers and the stock ribbed and grooved idlers with the RR ones? What did you used for shims, and what were the thicknesses? I already have the IW 8-rib crankshaft pulley, so no issue there, but this is just the info I've been looking for!

Re: putting togather a 8-rib set-up

I have the 2.1 setup and yes it works with some shims, I did shave the water pump lip. I can measure the shims if needed I do not remember off the top of my head. The Thump tensioner is the same 6 or 8 rib, works wonderful.

So you machined the lip off the stock Mach 1 water pump pulley, correct? What I was interested in with the shims, is did you use like standard thin sheet metal shims, or did you use washers? Thanks again for the info!

Jim, I believe it is the stock mach1 water pump pulley they are talking about. I used my stock mach water pump pulley for a while when I went to the 8 rib setup but it was VERY close so I ended up cutting /grinding the lip off so it had a little more clearance. Any machine shop can do the same thing. As far as the other KB stuff???

Re: putting togather a 8-rib set-up

I made my shims in my machine shop at work, I used 1/2" aluminum stock to do it. Keep in mind, I used 4 Reichard Racing idlers, the shims for the 2 idlers directly below the supercharger are longer than the 2 for the idlers closest to the alternator. I read a post somewhere that if you asked Reichard racing they would make the needed spacers for you.

Thanks Curt! Yeah, once I went and read that other thread, it all became clear. Guess I should of done that first!

I don't really need an 8-rib pulley setup, since mine works just fine the way it is, but you know me, I like to stockpile stuff for any future contingencies. LOL! This is the first time I've actually seen a lot of detailed information about using the 8-rib RR pullies with the KB 2.1 blower kit, and it piqued my interest.

Cool! That's interesting. If I decide to do this, I'll check with RR about the spacers. Thanks a bunch guys, good information!

i'm still in debat if i want to do a 8rib set up
i won't be using my race card again on price if i chose to do the 8 rib
I just figure it would be cheaper if i put it all togather than buyin a kit for alot more money
i really want to stay 6rib, but i'm still thinking i'm going to need to do a 8rib,
if i chose to i'll send you a PM
just not rushing into this one
