I thought 5K was a rather small number. I did read this in the current issue however. I concede if you have any connections/sources they are better than mine.

If they had said they were making 9000 I still would have bought one as well, but I probably would have waited a bit instead of rushing out and buying the first one available at a dealer (since I was under the impression that every mach was spoken for and the dealer said they would have only 3 for general sale) Oh well, live and learn. It's an incredible car, I just wish I could have saved myself 10-20% on the price like people buying them now.

yes we all would have liked to get a better price on the mach. here it is 5 months later and i dont regret it at all!! it was worth it to me at least knowing that when the car i ordered came in, i was able to get the full delivery treatment of MY car. i got pics of it on the delivery truck, being unloaded, and with all the stickers and plastic intact. Best of all it rested at the dealer only for 2 hours then on to its new home. nobody had the chance to oogle and drool over it and lean on it , etc. Yes i like many others paid more than the newer owners, but all that quickly gets forgotten when you drop the hammer!!!

Dave,

Big thanks for getting these numbers. I knew, with your clout with Ford, you could uncover the numbers on these cars. Thanks again for this site and it's information.

I would have thought less MACHs and more COBRAs. My local dealer got only 3 machs and 30+cobras.

The count is right!

I have corresponded with the plant manager of the Dearborn assembly plant and he confirmed the 9652 for the total number of 03 Mach 1s. When I contacted him with the question I didn't say what number I had heard and he asked me to give him a day to check it out. When he sent his e-mail the next day it was the same number we have reported here.

I would have gotten mine anyway! In fact, if they didn't build more I might not have been able to get one.

So how many comp orange cars were made? It seems that's going to change these numbers unless I missed it on your post.

Question

Just seen over at Yellow Mustang Registry, they have the Zinc Yellow Mach1's broke down to 703 Manual and 145 Auto. 848 total! Why can't we get that with all colors? See Here! Doesn't add up right to the 869 that we have stated here. Also over there they say only 2223 Azure Blue Mach1's, compared to our 2250. See Here!

Just wondering if we will ever get this figured out?

If you pay attention to the paragraph before the numbers, it explains your question and the discrepancies exactly. YMR represents units SOLD TO THE PUBLIC. Many other sources report ACTUAL UNITS PRODUCED. Due to some cars being used for Ford internal purposes, testing, etc., they are not sold to the public.

As true as that may be, I doubt 21 yellow Mach 1's were used for testing.

You don't. Mach 1's were not sequentially numbered like the Cobras and Bullitts. A few of the very early cars were documented as to their sequence, but after the first day it's a complete crap shoot. Mine is #16 and POLS is #2. There are a few others here that know their production number, but Ford did not provide it.
