Re: In Dash Rattle

4 years and 45,000 miles. I love my car, but it is a rattler! I took out the center console cover and shifter cover and lined it with foam last year. It worked for a while but it's back. Looks like I might need thicker foam. My driver door now rattles also with the bass on the radio or cd and the bass is only set to half way. Guess I have some winter projects now. Of course all of these noises are worse in the winter since all the materials contract a little with the cold. Good Luck.

Re: In Dash Rattle

Ok, I know mustang's rattle, that not news to me, but this one just started and it is really focking annoying. It's not the center dash rattle (the trim that goes around the AC/Radio), I have that two but fixed it, it sounds almost like a bunch of change bouncing around, it is not present at idol, but comes on at around 1600RPM's and gets a little worse from there, but falls off around 2800 RPM's. It [i[stay's[/i] there though while cruising, that’s the worst part, No matter what speed I’m cruising at, there is this annoying metallic/mouse like sound coming from the center stack/shifter (I have the cobrabob gasket, it's not the shifter). Anyone have any ideas, because it is really irritating.

I have searched all the related thread's to this and cannot find it, any idea's? Almost sound's like it is comming from under the car (when i got out i heard it, right under the door, but it's comming form the center of the car)

Re: In Dash Rattle

You're not alone. Nobody has been able to figure that one out yet. Something like coins rattling in a plastic bottle, yep, that's it but I hear mine from the centre dashboard top area. Nothing you can press will make it subside or go away. It just comes and goes on its own.

Re: In Dash Rattle

I asked around on another forum and they said it may be a flex plate/loose clutch, I tried making a video but you couldnt make out the nose, I will try again.

Edit: Also, has anyone had a problem with the dumb *** interior light rattling? I was playing with it trying to stop rattling last night for a good 20 min until i got pissed off enough to just punch the **** thing...and go figure, it went away.

I know this sounds crazy but did you check your shifter ball? I was running an aftermarket MRT one that would rattle and had to put some foam in then screw it down.

Just trying to help.

Re: In Dash Rattle

This sounds just like mine, I went to Ford and had them check out their database ... nothing ... while I was driving with my son, he touched the parking brake button when on the freeway and VIOLA!! that was the problem. Took it to Ford and they replaced it (was on warranty) and no more rattle. Good Luck

Re: In Dash Rattle

This is not just while driving, it can be at Idle to, I checked the Parking break handle, no good, it's fine. It only happens from 1400-2800RPM's, driving or not, weather there is load on the car or not.

Re: In Dash Rattle

I have one that sounds like it coming either from this center of the dash or possibly outside near the cowl but it only happens with my foot on the gas in fifth gear. Any Ideas?

Re: In Dash Rattle

well i finally found a rattle that had been bothering me for a while,it was the button on the e-brake handle, the spring inside would rattle with the plastic and it was so annoying

might be your problem aswell because i always thought it was from the dash

Mine also only rattles in 5th gear. Machman - was this your experience? Or was it rattling at all times?

This may be your fix. I had the same problem.

Re: In Dash Rattle

I had it with the dash rattle. I just got home from work, pulled the facia from around the radio, rolled up a piece of duct tape and put it on the rear. I put it back together and rattle be gone. Took every bit of 3 minutes.

Re: In Dash Rattle

Alright, heres some rattles. I have one that is in the passanger door, in that panel that houses the window switch/door lock. It makes a high pitched squeek when the radio gets loud. My dome light also vibrates (if anyone knows how to fix that one) at highway speeds.

Re: In Dash Rattle

The panel that holdes the windo and lock/unlock buttons is easy to remove. Pull it out and see if it stops.

My 04 had the exact same rattle and the same thing... Just push on the center dash area it and it would go away. I used the tape and it worked like a charm.

Re: In Dash Rattle

Does anybody have a rattle or squeak coming from around the gauge cluster or somewhere below or to the left of the steering wheel? Those are the areas I am guess mine is coming from. I press on stuff and it dosen't go away. It's only there when I am at a constent rpm. The rattle I keep getting from around my shifter turned out to be the change I keep in the cup holder! Just thought I would share that incase nobody has thought about that yet.

Re: In Dash Rattle

I found the source of the AC vent "tink" noise in my car at least.

It was actually coming from the plastic piece between the window and the hood where the wipers are. I figured it out the other day when it was really windy the tink tink tink noise got horribly annoying. Luckily I had my Girlfriend in the car and after pressing on that plastic piece she could hear the noise in the cab. It seems to be the rubbing of the plastic and the rubber that presses agains the window. Yeah!

They say that Knowing is half the battle but now I'm really annoyed since I can't seem to figure out how to fix it.

Any idea how to take that darn thing off and clean it or rig it to not squeek. I don't see any bolts to tighten/loosen.

I'm not out looking at mine but I've seen some held in place with screws that can only be found when you open the hood. Take a look and report back.

In the link I posted above, it will explain what you need to know. You can get the push pins at most auto parts stores.

Re: In Dash Rattle

I see the holes now. The link wouldn't work for me at my office computer. Mine starts at around 70 mph also. I will try to order the pins from the dealer. There aren't any NAPAs here in Germany. The "auto parts" stores here don't carry much since Germans aren't allowed to do anything but basic maintenance or cosmetic work to their cars. Gotta love Socialism .... NOT!

I hope this works. It is making me wanna kill little kittens.

Re: In Dash Rattle

Does anyone have the Part # for the plastic bolts to stop the rattle? And maybe a picture from the shop manual?
The local Ford dealership doesn't have anyone that speaks English and my German is not good enough to explain it.

That **** tink noise has been making me crazy, i figured it out when i was washing my car the other day, I pressed down on the plastic and it made the noise...My jaw droped, I almost broke down due to the satisfaction of finding the noise. Now I just need to figure out how to fix it.
