Head Tick
Sorry if this has been discussed to death as I know it's a common issue to an extent. Started the Mach today and got a loud ticking sound that is RPM dependent, coming loudest from the drivers side. It really isn't noticeable at idle but is quite loud and obnoxious under any kind of acceleration, light or heavy. I had a similar noise occur after I purchased the car and replaced the serpentine belt which stopped the noise all together. Now 3500 miles later the noise is back. Any ideas what it is or suggestions on fixes? Crossing my fingers the dreaded head tick isn't here to kill the Mach. Again sorry if this issue has been covered already. Thanks.

Re: Head Tick
My head tick turned out to be the timing chain tensioner. The chain was slapping around :/

Re: Head Tick
It wasn't too bad but I replaced the chain set, and oil pump while in there. Ran the Ford racing oil pump. The triangle one was relatively expensive for me at the time.the timing chains and tensioners were from O'Reillys. Cloyes brand. They make the Ford racing set. Honestly it's been years and I cant remember what the cost was. It was a pain though and took a whole day.

Re: Head Tick
Oh and mine went at 24k miles too. Don't know if it was because of the comp cams and springs putting a load on them or what. But I'm lucky the chain didn't chew through the cover.

Re: Head Tick
Very lucky indeed. I hate sounds like this because there's too many possibilities with what it could be. I'm almost ready to take it to the dealership and let them figure it out.

Re: Head Tick
I'd find a local speed shop that does engine builds n such. They would be better suited and cheaper.
