Thinking about vinyl wrapping my car

I have a black Mach and my paint is getting pretty bad, lots of rock chips and not to mention I never wanted a black car,I know I'd have to smooth out the rock chips but I was thinking about getting a charcoal grey or a blue close to azure blue vinyl. Anyone ever tried this? Where do I find big enough sheets that won't break the bank?

I think on something this big and to be done right (if you never wrapped anything before) it might be best to contact a local sign place or someone that does wraps on cars for businesses. I've thought about doing this also, but I think I really want mine painted, I also have black and the paint is just not good at all. also seems like who ever had the car lived in a apartment, because of there is a lot of little dings around the car, which to be honest is driving me crazy every time I see them, do not get me wrong my mach had a couple, but this car has a lot.
I think blue would be pretty kewl.

Re: Thinking about vinyl wrapping my car

I've wondered about plasti-dip vs. vinyl wrap. Seems like dip would be easier to spot repair.

I believe you would be right, but depending on the area, I wonder if say the door needed or any body part needed to be wrapped or sprayed again, that they would have to pull the whole part off anyways and re-wrap or re-spray. Would be a good question to ask. now for durability, I believe the plasti-dip would be the better out of the two.

Re: Thinking about vinyl wrapping my car

Sorry OP I know you asked about wrapping, but I do think plasti-dip might be something to consider also

Re: Thinking about vinyl wrapping my car

I do not want dip.it peels, you have to wash it a certain way,it's thick and looks like skin on the car, just really not what I'd want on the entire body.ive used it before,I think a wrap would be leaps and bounds better.

I've been seeing a lot of videos and it doesn't seem to be beyond my ability. I can do just about everything on a car. I have built many so I'm not worried about doing it,it's just price vs other things. About 500$ to get enough wrap material.

I figure I have to fix the chips before I wrap it,but then I'd might as well paint it. But then I'm still stuck with a black car. My other thought was if I wrapped it that keeps it a numbers matching black car and it's og color is still there, but if I did that I still have to fix the chips and blems and the black paint under it would be useless, kinda a catch 22

Re: Thinking about vinyl wrapping my car

The spot repair I sorta agree with, rather than wrapping a whole panel, but it doesn't seem to be that hard. And if you had to fix a spot on real paint you have to pretty much paint the whole panel anyway. So I can see that be the only pro to dip,but it's a nominal pro to me.

Either way at least a black car has black jams and engine bay! Easy blending

Those look like good vids tho and I will watch them. Main thing is.. I want gloss! I've never seen a glossy dipped car. But I'll look into it more and won't dismiss the idea

Re: Thinking about vinyl wrapping my car

understand about what your saying about the matte look and plasti dip.
here is a beautiful blue on there site

they seem to kind of have a gloss look, they add a pearl to it, but it still isn't a gloss like when one is painted
