Haha, Ford doesn't have any options that fit in a garage and get 27 MPG! This GMC is crazy nice though.

Pretty much doing anything more than walking 100 yards in it is pretty terrible.

Dang, $60/month? Mine is $30/week.

I mowed my parents lawn since I could walk then mowed my lawn since I graduated college and when I moved down to Houston I decided I would not ever do lawn work again. I absolutely ****ing hate it and honestly the $30/week is worth it's weight in gold for me to not have to even think about edging and trimming a yard. I have better things to do with my time.

Back on topic: a few better pics

Re: Bye Bye Old Friend

****. Just found out today that my company is laying off 40% of the engineers at my office in August. I really love this truck and it's going to suck to have to sell it a month after getting it if I'm in that group (not an insignificant chance that I am - doing mostly conceptual design work; aka not really value-added in the current climate).

Oh well, can't do much about it if it happens. Luckily my wife has her job and we've done a decent job of preparing for the worst...

Re: Bye Bye Old Friend

Sorry to hear; 40% is a pretty big hit. Nice of your company to warn the team, many just wait until they tap you on your shoulder. I'd start looking for a new job now if it was me.

Oh no, it's not a warning. Haha. An email was sent to managers. Not sure how upper management thought the word wouldn't spread around though. It's basically a "rumor" that's not a rumor (my buddy in the cubicle next to me talked to his manager about it). Each manager essentially got a list of people they're going to have to lay off in August - I don't think we were actually supposed to know about it.

Luckily I updated my LinkedIn a couple of weeks ago so I've got a good basis for my updated resume. I'm going to wait until after July 7th to start pondering about new jobs though since I'll have my Hydraulic Fluid Power Specialist Certification by then.

Gotcha; as a long time Engineering Manager, the worst days I have ever had were the ones where I had to lay people off. I imagine those that get laid off have it 10 times worse than me but it is just a horrifying experience. I have had to lay off close friends; those are some bad nights.

Oh yeah I don't doubt that. I totally respect my manager. He's been out of town this week but I know he'll be pissed when he finds out that he's got to lay people off without having any say in it whatsoever. I'm not going to hold it against anyone if it happens.

Yeah, we'll see. I mean, it happens to people every day. There's no reason why I should be be any less vulnerable than anyone else in this world. Fortunately, I'm blessed to have been raised by financially savvy parents and a wife that has the same financial views as me so we'll be fine.

I've only been in the working world since 2011 but the thought of waking up one Tuesday morning and not having anywhere to be is pretty frightening. Can bet your *** I'll be hitting the ground hard getting something else set up though.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers, i'm sorry that news had to come at you, whether you just got the truck or ever.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Thanks man.

Like I said though, this happens to people every day and I'm in a much better situation than a lot of people that it can happen to. Hell I might not even end up getting laid off. Not fun to think about but it'll work out one way or another.

Re: Bye Bye Old Friend

congratulations on the new truck. looks awesome.

after having been on both management and non-mgmt sides of "down-sizings", the worst for me was knowing who was going to get let go and not being able to tell them before-hand what was happening. I absolutely hated people getting blind-sided with this kind of event when the executives have it planned for months. unfortunately, budget and the "finance guy" have more say in who stays and who goes than the managers working with the people.

just know you will always land somewhere better than where you left.
