seat collapse

Who has been in an accident in their Mach, and as as a result their driver seat back fell to almost flat ? Curious because in December this happened to me and there seem to be other owners this has happened to.

Re: seat collapse

No accident, but I did purposely drill out the rivet on the seat to allow the seat to recline as far down as possible

I'm guessing you might have snapped the rivet if your seat lies on the rear seat. But even then, I'm kind of doubtful since that rivet was kind of a biatch to get out.

Re: seat collapse

In my Mach sometimes the seat belt will catch on the lever that reclines the seat causing me to flop back like a crash dummy.

Re: seat collapse

I did the same! haha.

And the seat leans back and comes back on these gear like pieces. The teeth get worn out. If your teeth on the seat gears were worn out, and excessive force and weight is applied on the seat, its very easy that it can slip out of the gear alignment, and go all the way back and not ratchet back into place. A little force and prying will get it back in line. I know from experience

+1 you probably broke the rivet. Fish it out of there.

And I don't really see it being a safety hazard with potential severe consequences. Seats get worn out, it happens. Get the parts replaced or new seats if your worried about it.

Re: seat collapse

Are you talking about the seat reclining back and hitting the rear seat or are you talking about the lumbar support collapsing and laying completely flat? The drivers seat has an air bag inside that allows you to release or fill it with air for extra/less lumbar support. If that airbag collapsed then ya the seat backing would go flat.

Re: seat collapse

So you haven't seen any stories google or otherwise search about car passengers severely or seriously injured because their seat collapsed?
Just curious because we have so many members and readers on this sight!
