Unhappy SR Springs

Man I hate to come on here after 7 years and start a new thread.

I have these guys sitting in the garage:

http://www.americanmuscle.com/sr-springs-7904v8.html

Are these actually going to lower the stock Mach 1 any?

The rear springs look the same height as the stock ones, but I know compression can change that. Is handling going to change in any undesirable ways? I would hate to get these on for nothing, or even find that they raise the car.

Let me know if I should send them back or install prior to new tires and alignment! Thanks!

I've always been told to stay clear from AM's "SR" branded parts. Is there any reason why you want to go with these springs rather than the typical Eibach, Steeda, or H&R? Just curious, because they really aren't that much more cost wise.

I'm sort of in the same deal. Whenever I got the car it came with a set of the SR springs. Can't decide if I want to take the time to put them on or not. There is a picture of a Mach 1 on the AM website with these springs and it looks really gnarly.

Re: SR Springs

I don't think you will like the SR springs.
I installed set for a customer and it dropped about 1"......at first. Then it dropped more (sagged) within 500 miles of driving and rode horribly.
We swapped them out for some H+R super sport springs (same as I have on my blue Mach 1 now) and they look good and ride great.

Good luck.
Also to note, I have used/sold Steeda sport springs for years. For some reason in the last year, the Steeda have only dropped 1" compared to 1.5" in the past. Not sure what has changed on their part number 8200. They ride fine, but you would have to cut at least 1/2 to 1 coil off to get the drop you want.

For all the springs I've run over the years including Steeda, Eibach, UPR coil overs, QA1 coil overs, and H+R race and H+R super sports...... I prefer the H+R super sports for looks and ride comfort.

My Cobra has the H+R race springs on it and rides very firm. Great for handling and corner carving, but sacrifices some ride comfort.
The H+R super sports are in my Mach 1 and it is my daily driver and rides great.

Here's a shot of it for ride height comparison.

Re: SR Springs

Thanks for the quick replies!

I already had the cheap SR springs and was planning new tires/balance/alignment this week.

But the lower control arm bushing rubber spins with the bolt.

So I will send the SR back and postpone lowering the car until I get H&R, bushings, shocks, and whatever else you guys would recommend for a suspension upgrade in the more distant future.
