4.6 build questions.

Well have chose to build me a 4.6. I have a few questions.

I got the tekskid block. Had it sent out. The machine shop went completely threw it.

I am wanting to build me a stroker.
1. what would be a good stroker kit? No power adders I want all motor.

louvernous or modmax 302 stroker?

I got a set of 04 cobra heads ported and the FRPP high lift cam kit.

My goal to be 500 plus horses.

This will be a daily driver.

I got all of the bolt ons.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Re: 4.6 build questions.

500 at the flywheel or the rear wheels? Either way, those cams won't help your quest for n/a power. Sell them and get some custom grinds .

Re: 4.6 build questions.

lol 500 at the wheels good luck. its been done before and that combo resembled nothing like the combo it seems your putting together.

yours looks more like a 380-400hp combo.

Re: 4.6 build questions.

I know It would be next to impossible at the wheels. with out power adders.
Am I not thinking right?

Stock motor 300 HP.
all bolt on mods 65 HP.

total hp. 365 using light numbers.

302 stroker 355 HP.
heads / cams 80hp
bolt on mods 65 hp.

total hp 500 using light numbers

Re: 4.6 build questions.

500 hp to the wheels NA with what you stated is never going to happen... there are very few NA set up that i know of that are 450Hp or higher and non of them would be fun/worth daily driving. plus your looking at a pretty high compression ratio to get those numbers.

Well you have to stop somewhere with the boost on a DD. Plus, the thing just gets silly to drive. It just boils the tires at will.

You end up with a reliable well mannered car if you do it right. Tossing rods out the side of the block gets old .....

Good luck with the build.

The good thing about the turbo is you have another muffler inline and you don't have to turn that dang belt all the time. Fuel economy is awesome and if it's sized right you won't have a noticeable lag. The peak torque will be

Your cams are too mild and the cubic inches are too few for making 500rw streetable hp. A stroker can make 450rwhp that would have compression low enough to for 93 octane and yet woudl not have to be spun to 8500rpm to make the power close to the power you want.

The graph below compares a bolt on mach engine with 96-98 cams and a short runner to a built stock stroke/bore forged 4.6 with low enough compression to run 93 octane. A similar engine with a stroker crank would be very near 450rwhp, make peak power lower in the rpm range, produce torque more torque and be very streetable:

Re: 4.6 build questions.

Some people are just masochistic about trying to achieve maximum n/a power "at all costs." On a motor that takes to power adders like a duck to water, it makes no sense, IMO, to spend great amounts of time and money just trying to AVOID using them!

Re: 4.6 build questions.

Go with the Livernois kit...BTW once you get the kit, its a good idea to send the rotating assy and block back to the machine shop.

As everyone else said, your combo will not make 500 RWP N/A as listed. Your best bet would be to get it all put together, broke in, and add some spray to pass 500 RWP.

Well...in general, strokers are not normally built for boost and pump gas, so its kind of understandable that he wants to stay NA...also some people are simply afraid of boost or squeeze

Re: 4.6 build questions.

I'm saving my money for a NOS 100-125 HP wet system. Not too many other engine mods needed with this. I think it's the best bang for the buck on a stock DOHC.
