Re: 50th Anv. Mustang Show @ Charlotte Apr 16-20, 2014

The MORE Program put all the clubs OUTSIDE the speedway in the parking lot, we figured we would miss stuff going on inside. And we didn't know how many were going and be in the group. Thats why some of us opted not to partake in it. I see on the 50th Site, The MORE Program not available.

Maybe someone can check with MCA to see if we group together and come in as a group, if they would park us all together like we did in Nashville, we just have to get all of us in a group before go in.

Maybe we should have a plan to meet up and convoy in together as best we can?

Maybe Russ could do a sketch of the group, since no one's camera seems to be working.

Hey, y'all! We will be coming in from MS. Staying about 13 miles from the track; semi-familiar with the area due to "annual" stop-overs between Bristol & Atlanta NASCAR races. Hope to be able to meet up with some of you. I assume y'all will post any group plans here? Looking forward to trip, although husband is NOT looking forward to listening to loud exhaust for so many miles!

I live in Martinsville. Checkered Pig is the name of it now, it was Pig R Us but Toy R Us sued them. They won another BBQ contest again not long ago.

We have another BBQ place here, Dixie Pig, that is good but you either like one or the other. Its been here probably since the late 50s early 60s. Im partial to it bc thats what I grew up eating. Still has curb service.

Its faster/shorter if you go 220 south, which runs right into 68, take 68 over to 65 towards Winston Salem, 65 runs into 40, 40 to 52 towards Lexington and then 52 runs into 77 which connects with 85. I know thats a lot of road #s but you only actually turn twice. I can be there in roughly 90 mins.

Or still a shorter version with less roads to remember, 220 south to 68, follow 68 past the airport to 40 west, 40 west runs into 77/85. This way is about 25-30 miles longer than the 1st one I gave you.

The way you going runs thru Greensboro business which is longer and more traffic.

Just remembered they are closed on Mondays. But here you go.

http://dixiepig.com/

They make their slaw, french fries, and onion rings homemade. Like I said, different BBQ from checkered pig. If you do go, I think they only take cash.

Another good place is Clarence's Steakhouse, right on 220 about 4 miles from Carolina line. Just simple home cooked food, best hushpuppies in the world.

There are several hole in the walls here that are amazing. Some of them make you go 'I m not going in there.'

Hotel rooms for the event? Doubt it. The area is huge and plenty of hotels within a 10 mile radius.

HOtels are prolly mostly booked anywhere close. you may have to go out 5-10 miles or more. depending. there are quite a few just at the end of the road of the speedway. We made our reservations about a year ago, i know they went fast the day they were available.
