Getting as close to 400 HP with Bolt On's
So..... I'm a member of a quite a few forums, mainly just for info. But occasionally I'll chime in when something really strikes my interest. Ran across a thread where someone was saying that the Mach 1 and GT are pretty neck and neck. I got into modding, basically saying what we already know, these motors are strong and respond much better to mods than the GT. I went on to say that you could get reasonably close to 400 hp at the motor with bolt on's alone. Well supposedly I'm an idiot...... My question is, does anyone have a dyno sheet or similar showing that it is indeed achievable. I have one with my few mods which puts me in the 370 hp range. Just really want to educate here. lol

Re: Getting as close to 400 HP with Bolt On's
If my old '99 GT 2 valve managed to outrun late 90s Cobras with nothing but intake, full exhaust (incl long tubes) and a BAMA tune, no doubt we can get these 4v Mach 1s to 370+ with bolt-ons!
That GT must have been 290-300 HP at the crank to (consistently) beat older Cobras. I ran against 2 or 3 of them, so it wasn't just one where it could have been not running right. Let's say I gained about 35 HP from light bolt-ons. Like you said, the 4v responds much better to mods. I'm sure a full bolt-on and tuned Mach would be reasonably close to 400. Aren't they underrated from the factory to begin with? |
