MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
Ok Everybody!!!! Chime in!!! I have finally got the money to purchase rear louvers for "Hollywood" I really rather have the Visus Louvers but good luck with that has they have been gone for awhile, so now what to choose.. I have been on the MRT's website and they have them and by looking at photos..looks pretty good.. American Muscle's looks decent but the bow at the bottom looks pretty cheesie.. I found something that looks promising but just showing just the louver not on a car really scares me. So here are 3 photos
#1. MRT's version #2 American Muscle Version #3 Mustang unlimited Version

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
It's probably what is going to happen. I'm just not completely happy on what's out there.. but still kicking around the idea.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
when i first got the mach i kinda wanted to do these, cuz of the old stangs and my buddy has em on his 1970 german T5 mach 1 and they look good, but for our body i just go back and fourth on it weather i like it or don't like it. for me i won't ever do it on my mach,
i saw the bow you were talking bout and yea makes it look kinda bent or not set straight, the third one would be alot better if it was on a stang, but still looks pretty good and the 1st one is good to go too i would say with looking at the three i just get the first one. good luck ASh

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
I bought my set of Visus Louvers from CJ Pony parts last summer. You can check with them, they may still have some. It was backordered for about 2 months however when I ordered. They are not cheap, but worth every penny.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
Dude, the MRT louvers ARE Visus! My Visus rear window louvers were one of the original mods I made to the car over eight years ago, and those puppies are still on there! They are starting to show their age now, as the paint is starting to peel off around the edges, so I'll have to take them off and hit them up with some black spray paint this spring. Other than that, haven't had any issues with them, and I always have people coming up to me at car shows and such, wanting to know where I got them, how much I paid for them, etc. So while there are the haters out there, just like with the Cobra Jet shaker emblems, there is also a rather large contingent of people who think that they look good, and add to the Mach 1 retro look!
Comparison of when they were new, and eight years later. NEW NOW - EIGHT YEARS LATER

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
I believe MRT bought out VISUS or something. MRT are VISUS.
The other ones are Astra-Hammond, I think those are the other brand.

I have the ones that American Muscle sells, don't remember the brand, I had them before American Muscle even existed, bottom line, go Aluminum!!!

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
I have Visus on mine and love the look. Only thing I don't like is the plastic hooks that hold the louver down. They get old and brittle and break. Wish they'd make something sturdier.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
Thats what I thought when I bought them for my wifes 98 Mustang first, then for the Mach. Both are the Visus, they make the cars look very retro. For me that is the whole idea.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
MRT now sells the entire hardware set for the louvers separately, plus they sell a prop rod to make cleaning the window less of a chore.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
I've already been through 2 sets. The little plastic clips get brittle over time and break.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
Really? Mine are the originals that were put on about 8 years ago! I've had to adjust them a couple of times by turning them a little bit to maintain the "snap" when they are closed. But so far, none of the original parts have broken. Guess I've been lucky.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
In the eight years I have had my lovers the only problem I have had with them isn't the hooks but the plastic covers on the studs that the hooks fasten too. They have worn and the hooks would come unhooked from time to time. At first I would rotate the plastic on the studs to a unworn area but eventually I removed the plastic and cut short pieces of the correct size vacuum tubing and slid them over the studs. It has worked great and because it's softer than the plastic nothing seems to be wearing so the hooks haven't come loose.

Re: MRT versus A/M versus Mustang Unlimited Back Window Louvers
HaHaHaHa...Sorry Jimmy Mac but it's been in the R&D stage since late summer and due to the WONDERFUL winter weather, along with my mach being " In The Barn" for several months, the final report hasn't been issued. You would have been the first to know....except for this thread . Once the weather gets better stop by and we can do the "Rear Window Louver Hook Attachment Pin Mod" on your car
