Chips in Edge of Valve Cover = Leak??

I am curious if a couple of thumb sized chips will cause the valve cover to leak. I have a used Mach cover here and the rib on the outside perimeter of the gasket groove has two locations where a fingernail sized chip is missing. I wonder if the gasket would try to push out? On the other hand it may not be enough to make a difference.

Looking at the way valve covers are made, I'd bet this is pretty common. Any experience or opinions?

I'm putting together a spare Mach motor so no I haven't run these yet.
