Re: NFL Football Thread

Did you hear Big Ben when the guy ran onto the field? "WHERE'S James Harrison when you need him?"

James put up on twitter "if I cant play nobody can play. LIGHT outs".

Yeah I heard that, and it seems like in the past few weeks I've heard more F-bombs during the games than ever before. Funny to hear the commentators apologizing for it.

Thats bc they are forcing the line man to wear microphones. The refees use to wear them but Dictator Goodell decided it would more realistic for them to be on the lineman. One of them actually got fined like $15k for removing his a few weeks back bc it was bothering him.

Re: NFL Football Thread

I haven't been on the forum, because I decided that this winter I'm finishing my basement instead of rebuilding my engine. I'll be Machless for a year.

I did however, come here to gloat. GO NINERS.

Gold > Steel

I won a bet with my best friend who's a Steelers fan. For the next month, her facebook picture is her wearing a Niners jacket. Good times.

Re: NFL Football Thread

Mike Webster who was the Center for the Steelers for 15 years complained about head injuries way back 20 years ago. He sued the league or something and got compensation for it. The shots they took way back then were far worse than any injuries they say their suffering now. Imagine a guy head slapping you for 4 quarters each week, which was legal back then.

Re: NFL Football Thread

Looks like the Saints have the Falcons all wrapped up tonight, now for Brees to take his rightful place in history with a season long passing record. Hope it's tonight.

Re: NFL Football Thread

The Saints are going to be more than a handful for everyone in the NFC playoffs. Their defense came to play tonight.

And big congrats to Drew Brees. A great athlete, a fantastic QB (that hardly gets mention amongst the Brady's and Rodgers' of the league), and an even better person. It was good to see him get the record on prime time football. Scarier yet...he's still got one game to air it out in. This record is going to stand for quite a while I have a feeling.

It's no different than what we see at the college level. The talking heads on ESPN have a harder time sating 'LSU' than they do filing their taxes.
Congrats to Drew & Co. on such a great win and such an impressive accomplishment in beating the passing record. Love the post game show in the locker room...especially the the part about the equipment personel.

Well I think the Pats will go all the way this year but only if they cancel the first half and just play the last 30 mins of the game. Don't know what there problem is in the first half. Should be a good playoff season and I can't wait.

Breaking the passing record is nice, but it would'nt mean squat to me unless you win it all.

Re: NFL Football Thread

Is it historic if you lose to the Rams and on the game you break the record, you throw two picks? Just curious.

Considering that Marino never won a Super Bowl, and Brees already has (nearly breaking the passing record that season), I'd say...Yep!

Oh, Sorry. I'm a Niners fan. I forgot a single super bowl was impressive to most other teams.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure there are shots or something you can take for it. You might also look at the final score of the game. For a team that threw two interceptions, I think we pretty much took them to the cleaners.

When they go to candlestick, that running game won't be there for them and the receivers won't be that WIDE OPEN. That was a deplorable defensive effort by the Falcons.

I'll bet you're still bumping chests with your friends over that Pittsburgh game too, aren't you? (you know, the one with the half-crippled Steelers QB). How about that narrow escape from the Seahawks? Superbowl class effort there too. Greenbay got shut down by KC...I don't see you taking cheap shots at the Cheeseheads over it. Even great teams can flounder from time to time, even on red hot years.

And last time I checked, San Fran didn't have a better record than New Orleans. So maybe you should wait until your Niners actually accomplish something in the post-season before you spout off from the lip like a rabid gunslinger.

All we're doing here is congratulating a great QB on a great milestone. Stop being THAT GUY.

7 of the 17 points the Seahawks got was from a blocked punt. Other than that, the Seahawks had 80 yards of offense in the second half and were outscored 16-0 (unless you count that punt).

My brother in law is from Wisconsin. You bet your sweet @$$ I gave him an earful! There are no Pack fans on here to talk smack to though.

And as for beating the Steelers? Yeah, I am pounding my chest over that win. Big Ben not being 100% is a cry baby excuse. He wasn't on the run when he threw those 3 interceptions and allowed a forced fumble. I won't take his bad ankle as any excuse to take credit away from the defensive performance they had that night.

New Orleans is having a good year, but they're going to have to go to SF and they have not played well on the road. They allow the 5th most rushing yards per carry. That's not a good matchup for them against Frank Gore. One of their biggest threats is their TE and he'll be covered by Patrick Willis and their three RB's will get no where on one of the best run D in the history of the NFL. It will all be on Colston, Meachem and Henderson to win the game. You'd be surprised how much more difficult it is to win without a running game and your best receiver taken out of the game. I'll bet 90% of the game the Niners are in nickel defense with a four man front and drop 7. I really believe the Niners can do to NO what KC did to GB. Can't help it if I believe in my team. Sorry.

Forgot about Lance Moore, Darren Sproles, and Pierre Thomas. Two can play the slot and two can screen out the backfield. So that now means 5 possible receivers at a time and two possible screen backs at a time. Not to mention Graham who will still jump over Willis as good as he is. And our garbage defense let Gore run around last year and still won. We can play the 3 pt games just like you can. Did it to Atlanta this year and did it to you last year. Forgot about that loss? Y'all are the same EXACT team minus Alex Smith not screwing things up quite as bad. He still really isn't a good quarterback. He's on a Sanchez level at best. And I don't think we played against Smith relatively well last year either.

You are just rocking those rose colored glasses huh? Willis won't cover Jimmy much if at all. He is a Mike, so the only chance is zone coverage. Curl to flat zone unless its tampa 2 then mid range middle zone. Your safety most often then not will match up with Jimmy man to man. You really think Patrick is going to split out wide or in the slot and get out of the middle where he roams??? Not going to happen. He will have to cover Sproles, and as good as Willis is I don't think anyone in the NFL can match up Sproles 1-1. You can game plan against him but you leave other areas open.

Granted Saints D is not that great, but their O is playing lights out right now and will be a tough match up for any team out there. The saints have won almost ALL of their games with out a run game, but short passes and screens make up for it. Saints may have a match up night mare with the run game on both sides of the ball but can the niners score enough to win should be the question to ask...

And you not aknowledging that Big Ben was a hobbled mess then you are truely being biased. 49ers won, can't take anything away from them. You are just not being honest with yourself though.
