pump up the volume like it or not knob

has anyone had problems with the volume knob on the radio/cd player ?

you have to be gentle and ever so carefully touch it to turn the volume down on mine now. turning it either way increases the volume otherwise.

leaning to live with it LOUD all the time

anyone know a fix other than replacement ? how hard is it to remove the darn thing ?

Re: pump up the volume like it or not knob

Very common problem with these radios.

They're fairly easy to remove. You have to remove the shifter bezel, then the bezel for the radio/climate control. Remove the screws that hold the radio, unplug it and your done. Takes less than five minutes.

Have any radio repair shops around you? Should be less than a $100 to fix. The Mach 1000 headunit I bought the volume just stayed at the same level no matter which way you turned the knob. I'd have to find the receipt but I think it was $95 to install a new volume control, look over the rest of the unit, and clean the CD mechanism.

If your car is an 03 I have a stock headunit I'll make you a good deal on. Bought it for a Mach 1000 swap that never took place. I've never tried it as my car is an 04 but if it doesn't work, you return the radio and I'll return your money.

Yeah my 02 gt did it, now the mach started. And just this week the cd player seems to have taken a dump with 5 cd's still in it.

Nuthin worse than cruising and some ghey song come on and instead of volume down it goes to max. LMAO

Go aftermarket, it's not much more and gives you more audio control. You can get your CDs back by smacking the face off the radio with a bfh, cutting the top off with metal shears, and make the cartridge springs fly as you pull the CDs out the top. My best time in this process so far is about 20 seconds. Takes lots of practice lol.

Mine has been doing this for a couple months now. Its aggrivating when you're trying to turn your volume down and your ear drums get blown out. I have to turn the radio off and then wait about 20-30 seconds and turn it back on. Works fine then...

Re: pump up the volume like it or not knob

My 02 F150 does this usually right after it is first cranked up. I find that if you turn the knob slowly, it will go in the right direction.

Re: pump up the volume like it or not knob

Any updates on this issue since Sep 2010. My 04 Mach 460 radio just recently started doing the same thing; just touching the volume control and it jumps to very loud volume. My radio was replaced one already under warranty due to a RDS issue. I'll try turning it off for 20 seconds to see if that works.

My wife borrowed the Mach one day and the volume jumped up on her and she about jumped out of the car.

Re: pump up the volume like it or not knob

Mine was doing this too. If you take the radio out and sat it face up, pull the knob off and spray wd40 on the knob stalk and let it run down in there, put the knob back on and move it back and forth a bit, it should fix itself. I did this to mine about 3 months ago and its still working perfectly. I've fixed several of these radios this way.

Good tip. In this digital age I was wondering how mechanical these knobs were and if something like that would help. I'll give it a try.
