There was a service bulletin back in the day where the capacity was updated to 3L or about 3.2qts. If I remember right, the original capacity was causing the synchros some trouble.

Oh, the "good old days" when you just filled a transmission up until fluid came out of the fill hole...

BTW, don't do that because it will be too much.

Actually, don't even mess with the fill-hole; the easiest way to pour in transmission fluid is to pull the shifter and pour it in thru the shifter-hole.

And don't bother with "the secret sauce" either.

yep. mine didn't like that stuff either. regular non synthetic fluid is best for the stock 3650 in my experience

Re: Tremec 3650 fluid capacity

Adding some thoughts since I recently did this. My 03 Mach 1 was having issues when cold (bad 2nd gear grind) and slow shift until fully warmed up. It was really ticking me off. It had been filled to the fill hole (not sure the oil, I know the clutch had been changed) by the last owner.

I swapped that out for 3.3 qt of Mobile 1 full synth AFT. Never been better. I still take the first shift of the day to 2nd slow, but no grinding and it performs great after that. I did not want to have any additives, so just the oil. There are certainly lots of oil choices, but you really need to follow the TSB and reduce the amount of oil in it to new guidance (do not use the fill hole which is too much).

I plan to put the same in my 03 Cobra which has a terrible first shift into 2nd in the morning.
