Do you have a wideband? Who did the tune?

Re: Possible tuning issue?

I'd start by looking at the plugs. That can tell you a lot. Then I'd put a new set in while I'm at it and see if that does anything. Data logging could be useful too if you can read the logs or get someone who can to review them.

Re: Possible tuning issue?

Plugs are new. 1st and 2nd good all the way it's 3rd gear pull when issue happens. I believe my SCT handheld tuner has data logging but I wouldn't know what to do with the information. Also I am running 80lb inj should I go to 60s if I'm gonna retune? I don't expect much over 600rwhp it is on a built bottom end.

Re: Possible tuning issue?

my understanding of the 80s is that if they cause problems its at/near idle on pump gas, outside of that theyre fine. Who tuned the car? They should be able to send you a datalog file to use or at least a list of PIDs to use (you hook the handheld to a laptop and download the SCT logging software)

80's will have no problem IF the tune is correct. Jeff Chambers at CRT had no issues at all with mine. I am running 120's now and never missed a beat. That is a tuning issue

Re: Possible tuning issue?

I had the car tuned by 3 diff tuners at some point with 80's due to pulley changes and a higher stall converter and I avg 11-12 mpg I'm not expecting great mileage but I've read 80's may hinder gas mileage some. I've done a search some people say it's in the tune others say you can't fix a hardware issue with a tune.

The 80's aren't the greatest. I spent a lot of time tuning mine. Ford never intended for them to be used on the street. It is possible to get them good enough. But I don't think they'll ever be 100%. Especially on a 4.6. Mine was on a 5.3 and I still saw some issues that everyone else was talking about. MPG with that set up was 12-14 around town and 18-20 on the highway.

FWIW, I tuned a buddies car that has 60's and was very surprised how easy it was to tune with them.

Re: Possible tuning issue?

I have 80's and no issues, but I haven't had to tweak this tune much myself. It was originally from Rev Auto in MD. ID1000's are probably the easiest injector I've tuned with. I had some 55's in my turbo Focus project that were always a pain.
Do you have a supercharged car and no wideband?? If so, get one. Also wire it into your SCT handheld so you can datalog the AFRs.

Re: Possible tuning issue?

Ok symptoms at part throttle in any gear revs fine to redline. At more aggressive throttle almost wot in any gear stumble at 5k rpms like it's hitting rev limiter. I have 2 diff tunes from 2 diff tuners they both do it, one a little worse than the other. I'm gonna start with the easy stuff, change out fuel filter and clean maf. I have an aeromotive fuel pump hope it's not it. If it's a hardware issue I would like to figure it out before I try to get a retune. Any other possibilities?
