Chips in Edge of Valve Cover = Leak??
I am curious if a couple of thumb sized chips will cause the valve cover to leak. I have a used Mach cover here and the rib on the outside perimeter of the gasket groove has two locations where a fingernail sized chip is missing. I wonder if the gasket would try to push out? On the other hand it may not be enough to make a difference.
Looking at the way valve covers are made, I'd bet this is pretty common. Any experience or opinions? I'm putting together a spare Mach motor so no I haven't run these yet.

Re: Chips in Edge of Valve Cover = Leak??
I would tend to think it would be ok since its on the outside.
The oil should be getting stopped by the gasket along the inside edge. The area between heads and valve covers shouldnt be under any big amount of pressure to the best of my knowledge

Re: Chips in Edge of Valve Cover = Leak??
Thanks. Probably right but not what I paid for. Luckily the seller took them back.
