Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
Doesn't look too bad, but I still think the Camaro will go out of business again. For $60k I rather buy a gt500 and slap on a few bolt-ons and call it a beast.

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
The z/28 is a specialty car like the cobra R and Boss 302 Laguna Seca, it's not a DD that is meant for the masses. Also, the Z/28 will kick the **** out of any of the Cobra R's despite weighing much more.
The only chevy small block that made any power was the early LT1, the 302s and 327s were weak. The Chevy big blocks made good power but like the Chryslers the only ones that made great power were produced in limited numbers. Also, it's hard to compare production cars on the street, in the days before drag radials, and especially when they have manual transmissions. Oh, my 76 Monza Spider with a 305 whooped up on every mid 70s mustang I ever raced...but my 85 Mustang GT was beat everytime by my friends stock, 86 Camaro despite me having sticky tires and 3.55s. Saying a car isn't good because it's not a Ford is just plain wrong. Bashing GM because they took funds from the government is also wrong. GM and Ford were in the same financial position when the recession started to hit. The only reason Ford didn't require the "bailout" is because they took out loans before the recession was in full force while GM waited until it was too late and no bank would take the risk. The gov't did the right thing and saved them. Ford is no better than GM for nto taking a bailout, they just saw the writing on the wall before GM. However, it probably would have been in Ford's best interest to take a bailout opposed to getting loans as it would have been cost them less in interest charges.

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
Are you saying those look alike? Well they are white and the camera angle is similar but thats where the similarities end.

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
Why even compare it to the Z28? The Camaro 1LE will out run the Boss302, and its just a SS with a optional package..Its proven, bigger tires, better brakes, tuned suspension..
Chevy has finally stepped up and put some really good pressure on Ford. Would I buy one? Noway, I need to see out of my car..and I bleed Ford Blue I will always buy the Ford because of my addiction with the Mustang.

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
This is what was said early on, but I don't think I've seen a magazine test yet where the boss lost to the 1le. Is that what guys' real world experience has been?
Even if it's close, when money IS an object, the difference between a boss302 and 1le is still well over $5000. Intake, exhaust, tune and tires with money to spare. But then, you're talking modded vs stock. |

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
I have never liked GM just not my style but I have to give credit where credit is due. I am impressed with the z/28 power just not what they did with it. I mean it use to be the Z/28 and then the SS like saying the Z/28 was to compete with the GT where the SS competed with the Cobras and the Mach 1s. But I guess things changed. Disappointed in the rout GM took the Z/28. I would have liked to see that GM made the Z/28 a more domestics pony car and put the pressure on Ford to possibly bring back the Mach 1 for a couple years. Just my 2 cents

Comparing a Mustang to a Vette is just plain silly. As far as the new Camaro, you gotta give credit where credit is due. All those weight savings quoted in the article and it comes a whole 100lbs lighter than the SS! That is an engineering marvel. I love that motor though, it's like Hot Sauce, I wanna put that sh$%%# in everything!!!! even in a Stang.

Of course, I will answer my own question by saying this: The people that will buy it are hardcore camaro fans.

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
2 seat, identical power, similar pricing, serious suspension and brakes, and track focused? If I didn't give a name, you wouldn't know wether I was referring to the Cobra R or Corvette or similar years. Sounds fair to me.

The Z28 would be more comparable to the Boss 302S model

Where is the back seat delete in a vette? Oh that's right, it was designed as a two seat sports car from day one. There is no fair way to compare a vette and a Mustang. Ford GT is your fair comparison. Too bad they don't still make GT's. Especially since the Viper is back from the short hiatus.

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
Ya, but it took Chrysler two tries and a revised viper to do it.

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
Meh, brand loyalty is for the birds. Strictly emotional, not logical(unless you have a parent that's a CEO or something random).
That and there was solid information about the z/28 at launch and a bunch of jibber jabber about the 50th celebration. Now, if it was pics or specs of the actual 2015 mustang it might get some serious traffic. |

Re: 2014 Z/28 Camaro
I dunno if anybody heard the Twitter "GRRR I'M MAD" spree the Ralph Giles(head of srt) had, but the ironic thing is he inadvertently admitted that the zr1 would outperform the first two viper models by saying something to the extent of "we've never seen a gap that large between the zr1 and the gts." As in, there was a gap, just not that big a gap between the two

Would I buy it- nope.
Is it a small improvement to the current GM offering...maybe.
