Same here. That and I was having occasional idle hangs and drops. Nothing like stalls, but enough to be annoying. I put my stock setup back on, including the MAF screen. Idle shenanigans went away.

Re: Cold air intake..which one?

The biggest gain is the filter. Dropping a good filter (K&N or something similar) will give the same gains as a CIA. The Mach's have a cold air intake from the factory. The air comes in from either the fender or the Shaker not the Engine bay.

Re: Cold air intake..which one?

Well, a drop in filter can potentially flow better, but they've also been shown to protect the engine less against contaminates too. It's a trade-off I'm not willing to go for.

For what it's worth, the GTs also had "cold air intakes" from the factory that pulled from the inner fender, but those got big gains from aftermarket CAIs. I was surprised to see 40 horsepower and 50 lbs/ft of torque on the dyno from a CAI, TB, mid-pipe, and mufflers. I'm sure the tune was part of that gain, but the extra air flow certainly helps.

I'm keeping my stock Mach 1 setup for now, but in the future I'll probably go with a CAI that maintains use of the factory shaker. The shaker is a big part of these cars.

Keep in mind that the drop in filters (like K&N) are the same type of filters that the aftermarket CAI’s use.
