Mine is now a daily driver (except on rainy days), and it just tripped 11K. It had only 5400 miles when I bought it last Oct. It had an 07 inspection sticker and had mostly sit in a garage for the last 4 years. They are just too much fun not to drive.

That's the problem I had. I was the 2nd owner at 6800 miles, but it was such a nice driver's car, I had trouble not wanting to jump in it all the time. I put almost 2k miles on it in no time and then sold it.

you have some valid points.. Theres so many different variables for each owner. I have 38k on mine and its not my daily driver. Shes garaged and if theres a slight chance of rain the garage door never opens. When I was 25 my DD was a 01 GT and I loved it. Now at age 37 I couldnt deal with having a new edge for a DD. But i dont purposely try and keep the Machs mileage down, she just has decently low miles b/c shes never been a DD. In addition, i think maturity has something to do with those rule changes. The older ya become, at least for me, the more ya prefer a chill, comfortable sedan with auto tranny lol. And once in awhile ya snap outta of it and romp around in a rwd, 5 speed stang to level things off

Looking back on this post from December of 2008, I didn't drive it too much since. I now have 16,500 miles on it. I have been averaging about 1000 a year.

I bought the car in Feb 2012. It had 346xx miles. She now has 40116 on the clock. It breaks my heart, but she will have to be my DD for a few years. I hope I can keep it under 8k/year. I plan to keep it as long as I'm breathing.

Re: Low Mile Mach 1's. <Post yours here>

Got 83k on mine, bought it almost 3 years ago with 46k, it's a DD and I thought these engines were supposed to be super strong but I have a mean piston slap and it needs to be replaced...it's stock....not driven exceptionally hard, never raced, never brought to the track, not redlining burnouts, just heard it ticking one day when I started it up. Idk I guess I got the token engine from Ford...

Picked up a DSG for my daughter with 45XX. The car is absoutely spotless, even had the owners manual and info cards still in sealed plastic. We did have to change the tires immediately the sidewalls were dry rotted.

Doesn't your piston slap go away once the engine is warmed up? I've got it on mine when the engine is cold ~2000 to 2400RPMs, but it goes away after a few minutes in the winter months. Mine has just over 42,000 miles. It goes away when I get to the end of the neighborhood in the summertime.

Has anyone tried Lucas Oil Stabilizer to get rid of piston slap?

Re: Low Mile Mach 1's. <Post yours here>

My retired brother was an engineer for Ford. Bought a 69 Boss 302 off the line. It now has 63000 miles on it. I know its not a Mach 1 but I tought I would throw this in. Less then 1500 miles a year. It was actually stolen one time in Detroit. Cops found it 3 days later parked on the street. Car was in good shape but the idiots knifed up the interior. My Dad was an upholsterer so it all worked out. Thought it was a cool story with a happy ending. By the way i have 26000 on my 03 Mach.

I know what your talking about I used to hear it too in mine but it is def not that. It kind of sounds like that just x10. I had it checked out at a local mustang shop, put it up on a lift and listened with the stethoscope and confirmed it was piston #8 that was causing the ticking/slapping sound of the piston, plus the engine burns a ton of oil. Something went wrong in there without me doing anything, I don't drive that hard that a piston would get screwed. The mechanic suggested maybe a cracked piston skirt, but that was just a guess, either way it has to be replaced, thats a definite. I just don't understand how it happened if these engines are soooo strong!??

So far, haven't started using oil. Sorry to hear about your 4.6.
