mgw short shifter issues

I have an issue with my mgw...

It doesn't feel like a smooth shift anymore... whatever they put on the actual unit when they first ship it seems to be gone...

Is there anything I can put on the shifter to make the shifting of it a bit more smooth? Anything anyone recommends?? I was thinkin of good ol WD40, but not sure that's a great idea, lol...

Re: mgw short shifter issues

Is the cup in good condition and still fitting tight???

I don't think wd40 would be a good choice, contact mgw.

Re: mgw short shifter issues

Everything is still tight, but compared to the way it felt before and my other mgw shifters... it just takes more effort to get it in... it doesn't feel smooth anymore - like whatever lubricate they put in is no longer there....

Re: mgw short shifter issues

well mine isn't the tranny.. I had to put my stock shifter in for another reason and it shifts nice and smooth... just an extra 3 feet to move it, haha..

Yours can also be issues with the clutch quadrant if you're having trouble actually getting it into the gear.

Re: mgw short shifter issues

Not trying to hijack the thread but i have a similar issue.

I just bought a mgw shifter and i notice that the actual shifter is much stiffer than the stocker, it goes into gear with some effort (more than the stocker). Also it clicks everytime i shift into a different gear? Is this common for a brand new mgw shifter? Am i just being paranoid? Ive delt with short shifters in the past but never with a mustang. Thanks

Re: mgw short shifter issues

I have had one in for about 2 years now. It was VERY stiff and clicky at first. I took it out of the tranny and really BEAT on it for a while until it loosened up. I think they pack the thing with too much grease at the shop, because as soon as a little grease came out the bottom I put it back in and it's now an unbelievably smooth and exact shifter. It's supost to click just a bit into gear.
