Re: DSG, show me your window tint

20% all around

20% is what I put on everything now, to me its perfect...dark enough to make it difficult for prying eyes but you can still see even at night in darker areas

Anyone with higher post up! I could never go 20%, the limit in my state is 70%

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

hmmm...I would be willing to bet that in tint rating that means you can go 30% (you have to distinguish between if youre talking how much light is blocked or how much is passing through!). ~30% is legal here but I havent been hassled so far

35% on the door windows, 20% on the rest. Only pic since the windows were tinted.

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

No, its 70% has to be passing through. I don't like dark tint anyways, which is why I am hoping to see someone with 60% or 70% or maybe even 80% (I don't know what the stock tint is?)..but I wanna see one a little darker than stock to get an idea.

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

Stock tint allows around 90% through. If you have 70% shine through, you would barely notice tint on there. My car has 45% tint on the doors so with the tint, it shines 35% of light through and it's not very dark. The back window and side quarter windows have 35% on it so roughly 25% shines through. In my opinion, if 70% is the darkest you can go, I wouldn't waste the money to do it.

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

Sounds to me like they might be using opposite numbers from what the manufacturers use. With 35 on the windows and the slight bit of tint that is already in the glass, a tint meter will read about 28%. 35 is the lightest I know of. The 28% came from the meter a DPS officer I know used when we checked a burglar's car for a reason to put him in jail. (Retired cop)

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

I was wrong, I looked it up and he's right. However, look at this:

Medical Exemption
Because there may be some conditions that would require a person to be protected from the sun's harsh rays, §375 (12-a)(c) provides a medical exemption. An owner of a motor vehicle, or someone who is a frequent passenger in another person's vehicle, can apply for the exemption with the N.Y. State Commissioner of Motor Vehicles

Your doc may deem it unsafe for you to have to much exposure to the sun, I.E., someone like me with a history of skin cancer.

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

Whoa this is getting confusing. Idk why some people like to reverse it, but I thought you always say the % of light that shines through (ie. say 10% = pretty **** dark)

Stock is definitely 90%? Because I think it is pretty noticeable, although obviously a huge difference from people with aftermarket tint. Like you said, its probably not worth the money for me to get it only a little bit darker, I was just curious what it would look like a tad darker. I am not a fan of the tint on the pics you posted at all..I guess I'm just a person who prefers the look how they came..I think it looks great.

Yea man, this is true, I know someone who has doctor connections, he got himself a prescription and then 0% tint.

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

Yes the doctor perscription thing works! I have a buddy that did that and he has 5% tint all the way around. I on the other hand went with 5% on the back window and quarter windows and the 20% on the door windows plus the 6" eyebrow. I thought the lightest tint they even did was like 45%...

You said you were not a fan at all of the pics I posted. Is that because they are too dark for your liking? I know around where I live the lightest tint they sell that I have seen is 50%. They may sell lighter tint in your area but to have it professionally installed, you maybe looking at around $200 if you tint all the way around.

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

I have a headache now too.

Just install the tint you want, and run the risk of getting a ticket for it, just like we do with exhaust and other things. I'm sure the cops in NY aren't going to come up to every tinted car, who is obeying the law, and ask if they have the medical exemption or not.

Anything over 35% is a waste of time.

I agree!! I have 45% on my doors and I wish I would have gone a little darker. Mine are little darker then legal for Wisconsinbut it's been about 8 1/2 years now and no cop ever bothered me.

Re: DSG, show me your window tint

20% tint all around except for the windshield, might go back to SVTOrange for 35% on the windshield again. Also new plates.
