Sorry for the hijack! If I had the money I would ship you my Mach so you could practice on a 2nd

I've already called dibs, and I am only 2 hours north of Ft. Myers.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Ever wonder why "Extra Strength" Tylenol, bufferin etc. work faster?
They have caffeine in them.
Opens your blood vessels so the meds can get to the pain faster.
I love caffeine!
More energy for "R".
As far as dibbs, the first "kit" might be installed somewhere in Georgia.
It might also be here in Ft. Myers.
A local buddy ( 98 Cobra owner) wants one with GT heads and a GT alloy block.
Already acquiring parts.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Almost finished with the AC hoses.
Taking longer than I expected.
Plus, I am disappointed.
With all the stuff I have done to this car,
I never had to drill one non-factory hole in the car.
The total now on that front is one.
Dang it!

I can't wait until you come out with the kit. I'm sure the project is a headache at times, but you've come a long way and it really looks great! Keep up the great work!!

Re: New Project "R" thread

Two entire days to make one custom AC hose,
and it still isn't exactly the way I want it.
So many little things to insure no noises or squeaks,
good protection from heat,
ample air inlet hose clearance, etc.
Almost there, but yeah, long day.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Well, I finally got the prototype suction hose routed to my liking.
I will hopefully get a custom made hose this coming week,
now that I have something for the AC shop to work with.
It clears everything, and the low pressure fitting is very accessable.
Air cleaner and inlet tube clears with a lot to spare.
I even was able to test fit the condensor, (stock but re-routed) liquid line,
discharge line ( only slight mod needed), and it's all bolted up.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Worked a little bit today on the throttle/cruise control bracket.
I got the overall height reduced by about another inch.
Throttle and cruise cables are nice and smooth during operation.
Just puttering around today..............

Re: New Project "R" thread

Keep the progress coming... I've been reading through this thread and I can't wait to see the results of this project! Hopefully, I'll be able to eventually do a 5.4 swap myself.

I have one question, though, and I don't think it has been covered yet... do you know the weight difference between that 5.4L and a stock Mach 4.6L?

It's about 100 lbs total I think.
The only difference is the weight of the block.
Iron 4.6 to aluminum is about 80 I think.
5.4 to 4.6 is about 20 lbs.
Heads = same, etc.
So I would guess 100 lbs.
There may be a couple or a few others that get the swap completed with the kit before I do.
Even when the kit development is finished,
I have to completely disassemble the car, paint it, get Boss 330 to build the motor,
then re-assemble the whole thing.
It's not hard really.
Kind of fun actually.

Re: New Project "R" thread

100 extra pounds wouldn't be too bad, I suppose. Especially considering the price increase of going from 5.4 iron block to the 5.4 aluminum GT block. I'll stick with the cheaper and stronger iron, lol.

Tubular K-member, and some Pro Stars would take care of the extra weight on the front end anyway.

Can't wait for more updates!

Re: New Project "R" thread

The alloy 5.4 GT block adds about $4000.00 to the price tag to save only 80 lbs.

Yesterday, GF and I finished up remodeling a friend's house
so she could put it on the market.
It sold already, on the first day!
Geez.....................
Anyway, back to working on "R".
Also will be working on a buddy's 98 Cobra which is getting a 5.4 32V
along with a T56 and Ford GT heads!

He "may" have included the required machining (+ shipping to/from a qualified shop) cost to convert the (dry-sump) GT block to a wet-sump (Mustang) set-up.

That's just a guess though...

I'd say you are correct. Lot's of machining required to make this a "direct bolt on".

Shameless plug... I currently have a Ford GT Block on the shelf!

Re: New Project "R" thread

Correct, with the required machining of the GT alloy block,
you are looking at a minimum of an additional 4k over an iron block.
I should have said that.
Silly me, I assumed people would know that.
I only get FRPP from Joe Charles (Reg member Itlrun)
at Parkway Ford, a SITE SPONSOR!!!

Best prices and service around.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Got the coolant crossover mod (widened) done at a local radiator shop today.
Fit right on. :ORANGE: (Powers Radiator in Ft. Myers, Fl.)
They also do custom AC hoses, so I had a suction hose made.
Fits the car OK,
but I want them to make a couple of adjustments for better fitment.
I will handle that tomorrow.
Basically the EGR and exhaust need to be done,
and then the intake manifolds will go to Roy for fabrication in aluminum!
Calling my Buddy in Au tonight.............................
It's coming together.

I See, That makes alot more sense. Joe is def good, And you cant loose dealing with a site sponsor. I have helped out several members here in the early days, with Ford and FRPP stuff, as I am a WD also, and did not want to see anyone getting taken advantage of! I have not tried to sling any parts here, but when I saw that 4,000.00 quote I was like, "Hold the phone!!!!"
