Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
They are a blast! I think the open track events (Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville) I have done, NO Passengers except an instuctor (if available).
Fire extinguiser, just go down to home depot and get a $10-15, It will mount right under the glove box, that is where mine is mounted. There are 3 screws in the bottom of the glove box, I think 1 or 2 will line right up with the bracket. I have usually gone in B or C classes. Depends on your experience. I Have done a few open track and some SCCA racing. Some will allow cameras if mounted on a roll bar or a semi-permanent type bar setup. Snell rating on helmets, Some may not allow the SNELL (M) (Motorcycle) helmets, it has to be just SNELL Probably "2005", normally within 5 years of the current year. Depends on how strict they are on the rules.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
The "official word" will come with the registration materials. Snell 2005 is the latest model and should be ok. Based on experience at Nashville for the 40th anniversary, they allowed the fire extinguisher to be strapped in with a bungee cord. (I had a First Alert rated 5-B:C) If you have no track experience, an instructor will ride with you for a while. Then you can drive on your own. I do not think anyone else can be in the car (except the instructor).
For the actual track events, the cars will run in their respective classes, i.e., "D", "C", "B", and "A". |

The form is legit, although it was released early. Sorry for the egg on my face.
Next question, what is IMBOC? |

I think the fire extinguisher needs to be type BC and DOT approved but I'm not sure Yes it needs to be mounted securely. They don't want anything that can fly around if you crash I don't believe they allow passengers....possibly in the novice class but I don't remember anyone taking passengers. I do remember instructors being available in the novice class. They ride with you and give you pointers on how to drive. No the mach1's don't go out as a group during the open track time although there have been several mach's out at the same time. The Mach's didn't go out as an exclusive group per se. And yes during the casual slow laps on the last day, Sunday They always kinda add that portion because so many want to say they were on the track. It's kinda fun although to be honest once you have been on the track "At Speed" the parade laps are a little slow. When you register for the 45th make sure you check the box requesting additional info on the Open Track Event. They will send you a packet of info that will answer your questions

If you have never done an on track event or have a convertible without a roll bar, they made you go into the D group. They told us that the top speed was gonna be 75 mph on the straight away (start finish) and threatened us that we would get to go home if we got faster than that. After the first session, my brother (who was driving his '68 convertible) got out and asked how fast I ran, I told him 75 and he laughed and said "no wonder you got passed by several cars"!! Apparently, they were not watching the speed very close, so no more 75 mph for me. After that, I drove as fast as I felt comfortable with for each session. I think that I hit like 100 or so before you had to get on the binders to head back into the road course section. You do have to have all the items in your car fastened down and the fire extinguisher can be a cheapy from the local home improvement store. Also, they double checked your lug nuts and made you pressure your tires to max sidewall in the tech inspection. Tech inspection was pretty thorough. It was well worth the $170-190 that it cost to do it.

We tried a few laps with a hand held camera and got black flagged for it in turn 3 and it had to be removed. (remember, no LOOSE objects) Oops Got one lap on the camera.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
I got away with a Ghetto camera mount at the MCA 30th. I took my mini tripod and put it under my passenger headrest and the legs fit into the shoulder belt slot and the rear quarter window. It didn't look to bad and worked great. I got three full 20min. sessions on the camcorder One time while waiting to get on the track one of the officials even came over to my car and said something like "hey neat camera mount" ! I guess it looked like it was bolted down

on the passenger side there is a carpet pin, remove it and use it to attach the fire extinguisher bracket

MCA has posted up their 'official' version of the registration form, and you can do it online or mail-in.
https://secure.icglink.com/mustangev...gistration.cfm Noticed that the track day events don't cover Sunday, so maybe there's hope for parade laps (I know it's not a fast or adventurous as the 'at speed' events, but it's fun, and nothing gets seriously broken)

Note that the "official form" has a lot of stuff left over from the Nashville show. The open track form has a deadline for submission of April 1, 2004!!! Also, the hotel is listed as the Opryland. Probably the only correct information is the general registration form.

So tell me what I want to do...
I guess I want to sign up under Participant Award Display Includes 2 weekend passes - $35., plus MCA Membership $40. Where do I sign up as Mach1Registry.com, do we get to park together? Sign up for the Open Track Event? How about the Thursday evening cruise? What is the schedule for after show events (dinner)?

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
Sorry, we've booked up all of the MAch 1 Registry events..you'll have to wait another 45 years....
Seriously, we're trying (not me, but other people here with such powers to do so) to get the Mach 1s all together. I think they're going to send you information ;ater on on the track events. What to do Thursday and other non-MCA things like dinners and such are being discussed. We'll let you know what's going on as these things get confirmed. (I'm personally hoping for a run to Hooters on Saturday night, we might even see Frank there! )

Clarification on MCA cruise on Thursday evening. The link in Falcongtho3's post of 7/26 does not contain details of the MCA cruise. The MCA cruise will end with a block party in Birmingham. Space is limited to 500 cars. There is no charge, but you should register early.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
There is a small paragraph about it on the reg. form, and there is also a space to check off on the form you mail in. Do so if you're considering it. I think Frank did it at the MCA 30th show and it was apparently well attended. There was some local news coverage of that event as I recall.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
I have been given the duty to organize the Thursday evening cruise. We will have a band again and it will be in downtown Homewood. Instead of one street we are trying to get to main streets and a cross street as well as 2 parking lots. We are going to have an escort and interstate ramps closed for us by the local law emforcement agencies. I'll keep you posted as I can.

MCA had posted that the link to the registration site and official information would be up by Aug. 1.
Guess what? It's Aug. 2, and still no link or information. Go MCA!!!

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
MCA has been promising an updated and new website since late last year. Guess what?! No website. Don't hold your breathe and don't wait for the site to send in your $$ for this event. Can anyone with information answer why the event is limited to a certain # of cars? Also, why you must be a MCA member to attend? None of the prior anniversary events had either of these restrictions. Why is this one? Sorry if I sound pessamistic, but I am not a big fan of MCA at this time. Would be nice if someone with knowledge could enlighten Mustang lovers on this and other forums why no website, no online registration, no explainations on limitations.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary - OFFICIAL THREAD - 4/16-4/19/09
I'll try to give the best answer I can to all three questions.
1. The web site I was told last night is being tested and should be up in 2 weeks. 2. The limited number of spots is because of the area to park cars. We still are antcipating over 3500 cars for the event. If you have never been to Barbers, don't miss out. 3. Sticky point about being a member of MCA, I cant give a direct answer, because I don't have one. The leadership of the organization feels that it is required. Lets face it too, if it weren't for the MCA going to bat for the car back in the middle 80's, wouldn't the model be dead? Although we may disagree with this portion of the event we can still enjoy a great weekend together. Hope I have given some light on the questions asked. If anyone has any questions about the area or needs any type info PM me and I will do the best I can. |

The funny thing about the MCA membership part (and I am a MCA member) is that the 30th Anniversary Show there two years ago was a "MCA" event but membership wasn't required. Now we're having a "Ford" event and MCA membership will be required? I'm a little puzzled, is it the MCA's 32th or Ford Mustang's 45th? Either way, I'm a Mustang owner for over 40 years myself and a MCA member and will be there ... again.

If we can't get a tent, maybe they'll put us all in that big glass building at the entrance...after they move out all of those motorcycles...
