It's not sluggish after 3rd gear either. Before, I would be in 4th gear for example, and if I punched it gain some speed, it would take a little bit to feel strong. Now its strong all the time, through all the gears. I was doing about 25 mph this morning in 2nd gear, punched it to get around a truck and the rearend got loose. The traction control was on so it straightened right back up. I'm very happy with the 4.10's, even cruising at 70mph. I need to correct the speedo but Im trying to figure out what tuners in the area can do for me, without getting a dynotune right at the moment because I have a few small engine mods I want to do before I get her dynotuned.

just buy an xcal2 with the only change being the 4.10. then later use it to dyno tune when you are ready.

I'm going to. A lot of tuners out there will preload the tuner with a tune based on your mods. After getting my car dynoed at Mustang Week, I ended up with 317/339 but the car was running extremely rich. With that being said, I want to get the A/F ratio down until I can get the car dynotuned. So I'm just going to have a tuner install a tune on the tuner before they ship it to me. Its free so why not?! I could just get one without anything preloaded on it just to fix the speedo and then adjust the A/F ratio on my own, but why not try to pick up a few ponies with the free tune

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

how many of you guys all switch from the stock 3.55 gears? I always thought 4.10s ever were like for serious track use and would rev up high in 5th gear on the highway... but 4.30s.. what are your rpms crusing at 70mph?

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

I have a stock car /w 4.10 and SCT base tune, cars happy.

03TorchedMach1: Whats your PCM code? if its ZYA2 I'll send you a stock tune with JUST 4.10 change.

4.30s here in my daily driver for the past 4 years. In 5th gear at 80mph the rpms are 2750.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

Looks like I'll be changing from my 3.90s to 4.30s this week, that way I can run a 28slick at the track. I think this should work pretty good with my stalled auto, my Boss thinks it will take me from low 13's to mid 12's N/A. Plus it will be about perfect on a 100 shot, for getting me around 6200rpm going through the traps.

What do you guys think.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

i put 4.10s in my car, thought it had great accell. Several weeks later put in a Ford T-56 in the car, It has a different gear for first. I now need to go with 4.30. I would go 4.10s the rpm arnt high at 60 it will go and mpg will stay around 18- 24 depending how hard you are on it. I get 20-25 with T-56 and 4.10 around Baltimore.

Which is better for part highway, part city driving, the 3.73's or 4.10's?

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

O.K, I've read all the gear threads and I'm even more confused on what to get.
So what is the best gear for a Mach w/P1SC (5spd) for 60mph roll-ons and light to light fun? Not that I do that sort of thing, just curious...

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

what about this an 03 pretty much stock besides a tune of coarse when i get gears.

I live at pope afb and drive home to sc ~2-1/2 hrs mostly on interstate. Should i even try to get 4.10's or 4.30s?

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

Personal choice, but I had 4.10's in my old '96 Mystic Cobra.....suited the 4V perfect. It was enough gear to make it snappy, but still very very liveable on the interstate. I was working in Atlanta during the week, then driving home to SE Ga on the weekends...about 230 miles one way. Car was happy cruising along at 70-80 mph, knocked down 24+ mpg on average. Be interesting to see how my auto Mach reacts to them..should be fun.

How do those gear ratios work? Like what is the point of them?

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

The "larger" the gear, the Better the torque multiplicaton to the rear tires will be.

Easy way to understand it (or better yet, how it works.)

With the stock 3:55.1 - the drive shaft will turn 3.55 Times to 1 rotation of the rear tire.

With 4.30's, the drive shaft will turn 4.30 times to 1 rotation of the rear tire.

More turns of the driveshaft in relation to the tire means more torque.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

So according to that chart above, there is not that much torque in the 5th gear right?

The speedometer is the only thing that will be affected. You can drive it all you want until you get it calibrated. Just keep in mind that it will be reading about 15.5% faster.

When it says you are going 40 you are really only going 33.8

50 = 42.45
60 = 50.7
70 = 59.15
80 = 67.6

This can make a big difference on your odometer if you don't ever fix it, but it won't hurt anything.

Stay with your 3.55's or go 4.10's. You will be disapointed with the 4,30's on the highway as you will run out 4th too fast.
5th is an overdrive gear and is not meant for pulling. I have had 4.10's and 4.30's installed in my Mach.

1st gear is useless if you have stock tires. You at least need a drag radial for 4.30's at the track. Some people may be able to finesse the 4.30's off the line but 99.9% of the people will not. If your gonna start off in 2nd with 4.30's why have them?
Good luck with your choices! Again this is my opinion and others have theirs.
