Mach (sorta) Under Water
Had some flash flooding the other day. My Mach was being driven behind a cop car. Cop car made it through the water. The Mach did not. Stalled out. Towed out of the water. Lowered about 2 inches ... water got inside. Insurance will probably total it. Still waiting on an appraiser though (thanks USAA!). Engine was not completely submerged. Has power (dome light, dash lights, windows still work), and probably had water in the exhaust.
Can it be saved? Any idea as to where to start trouble shooting? If best to let it go, I will. It's paid off and I have the title. Only 49K miles. Suggestions??? Thoughts??? |

Re: Mach (sorta) Under Water
By power you mean electrical or that you can start it and it runs??
I'd see what the adjuster says, your right though they probably will total it out. The upside is you could always ask what they would sell it back to you for. You might be able to buy it back cheap enough to make it worth keeping. If you started drying it out right away chances are the long term damage is probably minimal. |

Electrical only. Would not turn over.
It's still at the local dealer awaiting the adjuster. |

Re: Mach (sorta) Under Water
personally that sounds like a future full of electrical gremlins waiting to happen as things that got damp continue to corrode

Re: Mach (sorta) Under Water
If it sucked water into the engine your probably looking
at bent rods. I see it a lot in rainyass Louisiana and I work at a car dealership. We replace lots of engines for this same reason. I would pull the plugs and verify water intrusion. One easy way is to start with looking at the air filter. If its wet then move on to the plugs. Sorry you have to deal with this. I know how it feels. I had my 04 Comp Orange Mach get 3 & 1/2 feet of water. Total. |

Re: Mach (sorta) Under Water
Insurance is gonna total her.
Gonna clean out the glove compartment, trunk, console tomorrow. Should hear Monday or Tue. what the details are and what kinda $ I'll be gettin. Plannin' on retiring in about a year and half .... was gonna sell her to bank some $. Just came along sooner than I planned. RIP Maria. Thanks again for the comments ... made my decision easier. Just too much to overcome. Might spend some of the insurance $ on my trusty ol' '87 5.0. We'll see. And I'll still pop in here now and then. |

Re: Mach (sorta) Under Water
Dang. That sucks. Maybe someone will pick it up and make a drag car out of it or something.

Re: Mach (sorta) Under Water
Cleaned it out today.
Customer service rep at the Ford dealer said the throttle body was rusting already, and all the engine oil looked like chocolate milk. Said the water got sucked in through my cold air intake tube. Thought about having the engine rebuilt. Panhandle Performance here in Panama City has a pretty good rep, but all the other problems that would keep poppin' up, something else would corrode, something else wold not work .... I'll move on to somethin else. Not sure what. It'll be something Ford though. |

Re: Mach (sorta) Under Water
My father bought a low mileage GT500 a little over a year ago for $14,000. The car had been "totalled" by the insurance company because water got inside the car. He took it home, pulled the carpets and cleaned it all out, air dried everything, sanitized it, and reassembled. The engine wasn't hydrolocked, so he changed the oil and fluids. He then added a few "go fast" parts. It's now a gorgeous looking 700+ horsepower car and he's got maybe $20k tops invested. If you bought one just like it with a "clean" title, you'd pay at least double.
Hate to hear about your Mach 1. Water damage sucks.
