Detailing the vinyl on the hood - 2003-04 Mach 1 Registry Owners Club

So I need to know what works best on the hood vinyl stripe as well as the semi gloss rear wing. I use Meguiar's M21 on the painted panels. Thanks

Don't anyone clean and detail anymore? I was sure I would get at least a few good ideas on what products to use.........Since I replied to my own post, does that mean I talk to myself?

I use Wizards Shinemaster Polish & Sealant. I wax the whole car and vinyl stripes/spoiler with it. Works like a champ, doesn't cause white stain on any black trim, easy on/easy off.

I use a porter cable polisher.. I use the same product on the paint .. Rear wing and decals. Just act like its nit even there.

Just be sure to clean up any extra build up with your micro fiber. It collects at the edge of decal

Thanks for the replies, going to clean this pony up this week......Another guy I work with said turtle wax ice should be good too....anyone ever try that?

I have been using surf city garage demon speed wax detailer and it works awesome

we tried that turtle wax stuff on something in the past, we werent impressed at all

^Pretty much same here. Wish I had the Porter Cable polisher though lol. I have the DA polisher from Harbor Freight.

I use Adam's Polishes products. However, I'm finishing up my last bottle of Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax, then I'll be using Adam's Buttery Wax. Their detail spray is the shiz.

wax is only as good as the polish underneeth..
wash..clay bar..polish THEN wax

When you claybar and polish with some type of compound do you need to avoid the stripes?

By polish, you mean product you follow up cutting with? I always thought the polish was last because it creates the nicest shine. No?

I did. I was afraid I would burn the decal. I ran my buffer with the wax over the decal very lightly and quickly with about the second slowest speed. I can't say whether or not this is the best way, just how I did it.

Not sure. I thought the polish was done with some cutting compound to get rid of the spider webs. Clay bar, polish, seal, wax.

I'd be cautious about using a polisher on vinyl decals. I tape off the decals when I correct my mine. Too easy to catch an edge and be out a decal or burn through one. Plus you wanna tape them off so you don't get product in the edges of the decal. When I'm done polishing I pull the tape wipe them down with alcohol like the paint and apply sealer. I also do not polish anything with a matte black finish so I tread the spoiler like to decals.
Also when you correct make sure you tape off all your rubber and plastic trim. Kinda like your painting the car. It takes a little time but in the end you will finish with a better product and save lots of time in cleanup.

Watch this video. This gives you the correct steps and tools use to properly correct your car. It's long but if you can't sit through it I wouldn't try to properly correct your car either as it takes a lot of time. https://youtu.be/XmH6Z78JLX8
