Finally started the build!

Just got back from the shop (horsepower by herman) and bought my block, got the BOSS 5.0 modular.
Going with 9.2:1 compression, and matched with a small KB or 2.3 whipple, haven't decided yet, going to keep it low power, around 550 to the wheels. Soon to follow is the T-56 Magnum with the 2.97 1st ratio and some custom comp blower cams similar to the stage 3's.

Putting the Mach on the lift tonight or tomorrow morning at my buddies house to drop the motor/k-member and send it off to the machine shop.

More info to follow as the build continues.

Why an expensive block only to keep the power around 550?

What he said. I'm about 550 with an iron 4.6 block bored and stroked. Probably could have gotten there without the boring even.

Re: Finally started the build!

550 to the wheels is possible with stock cobra longblock and 13psi of boost out of a KB/whipple...

However, if you want the headroom for more, I think you'll have the foundation for it.

Bingo Tony, I want to stay around 550 at the wheels right now, i'm mid 20's, single, and don't race the car at the track every weekend, if i get 6 or 700 to the tires i'm going to be doing nothing but spinning all day long, thats not fun for me, maybe someday my plans will change when i want to just have a 800RWHP insane beast of a car, however i'd rather not have to redo the shortblock if that day ever comes along.
This whole build is going to be overkill for my application, but I really don't want to have to replace the engine or trans ever again, no matter what i do to it.

You can throw all the money you have into it and build it as strong as humanly possible, that still wont guarantee something wont break. Again your spending an awful lot of money on a block that you don't plan on pushing too it's limits.

You have a good plan, and if you have the money and want to spend it more power to ya. Can't wait to see more pics of the build as it comes together.

Yeah I agree with you Scott, but it seems logically that if i buy the best parts available, it should not only hold a ton of power, but also have the longevity that i'm looking for.

Re: Finally started the build!

Sounds like a great combo.

You are doing the right thing. Build it bigger than you think you are going to need it...you won't regret that decision.

good luck with the build...

Re: Finally started the build!

Here are a few pics of the tear down, I didn't get many pics of disconnecting all the connectors because thats pretty self explanatory, but it took me and another buddy 8 hours to put the car on the lift, disconnect everything, drop the k-member, and put the motor on an engine stand. I put the k-member up myself today and reconnected all the suspension, it was a learning experience and it was a lot of fun.

biggest challenges:
unbolting the starter with long tubes and stock K-member
taking the power steering pump and lines off

other than that it was a pretty straightforward job for never having taken a 4.6 modular motor out

this is very true, after i did my research and talked and talked to guys on here, i was better off for sure going with a D1sc instead of a P1sc just incase of the future for more power and then what happen my head cracked and got a built motor and thank god i went with a D1sc cuz i had the head unit to make the power i wanted and if i would have just had the P1sc wouldn't have been there. just make sure you get the one you for sure want that way no regrets later

Thanks for all the good words guys, I won't have many more pictures until I return from Afghanistan, unless I can get the guys at the shop to take some pics as the build comes along, then I'll post those up.
