t/o bearing retainer sleeve grease type
Hey I'm changing out my clutch on Wed, already have BRAND NEW:
03 Cobra Clutch disc and PP, 03 cobra flywheel, Clutch fork and pivot ball, Clutch cable, Ford Racing t/o bearing and pilot bearing. question is, when I take everything out, I've got a new (to me) 3650 going in, its been sitting in the garage for a while and has some surface rust on the input shaft and bearing retainer sleeve. I plan on using some emery paper and getting rid of all the crap thats accumulated on it. but what type of grease should I put on the input shaft (where the bearing rides)and on the sleeve for the t/o bearing. I don't think white lithium grease would be a good idea, I've got a jar of synthetic high temp grease at the house (specificially for ford/lincoln/mercury cars) would that be good to use? and I'm only going to put a thin layer of the stuff on there. in doing research before I posted, I found this... a rep from american powertrain says don't grease up anything? hopefully someone who's been doing this for years (aka M1M or someone else on here that works at a performance shop with tons of hands on experience that has installed clutches time and time again with no issues) will chime in and give me/us a direct, no BS answer. Logic says friction and heat on the clutch fork/pivot ball and no lubricant is going to make it difficult for the fork to rotate on the pivot ball and cause premature wear from the metal on metal contact, but then again i'm not educated on the subject... just my logical thoughts on the situation.

I talked with a knowledgable trans builder who has done t-5s for me in the past in san Antonio. He told me I could try to take a spray lube with a long straw and spray some on it. He said sometimes it will quiet it down, and sometimes it won't. I'm going to give it a shot. If it doesn't work, I'll be in the same boat I already am.

well, 3 hours and counting until the clutch/trans replacement happens. Nobody responded so I called M1M, he said whats on the T/O bearing should be good enough. He agreed that if there was too much on the retainer sleeve it could possibly sling onto the clutch components. I for sure do not want to deal with that so I'll be doing it his way, I'll put a little bit on the fork/pivot ball and let you guys know how it works
