What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I Grew up racing Ford's with my dad building motors and making hp. He use to run a 1966 Ford fairlane and we traveled around running at different tracks. My uncle was a big Chevy guy and had a Chevy 2 and we use to grudge race a lot against him. My dad is a die hard Ford guy and really enjoyed out running Chevys. When I was finally old enough to drive I wanted a Fox body mustang and the rest is history. I'm now on my third mustang and we all still love drag racing. I love racing Chevy's (like my old man) but I have a lot of respect for them. I enjoy friendly trash talk but at the end of the day I like anything fast regardless of make.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

It's funny because I used to be a huge Camero fan. I used to have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt, a 2001 Chevy S-10, and a 2003 Chevy S-10. My wife has a 2004 Chevy Blazer and at one time even had a 2006 Mustang, however had to get rid of it due to child #1. Now she has a 2009 Nissan Rogue.

I remember when they announced the new Cameros, I was so excited to get one, however they were just out of my price range.

My dad had a 2006 Mustang GT at one time and then he had a 2003 Mach 1. Which is what I am currently driving. I took the car over from my dad when he couldnt afford the payments due to a medical issue. I promised him that the Mach 1 would always be in the family and that I would never get rid of it unless it was passed down to my children, or wrapped around a tree...whichever came first.

From the first time driving it I fell in love. Prolly mostly for sentimental reasons more than anything. Im in love with this car and cannot wait until I "finish" everything I want to do with it.

So I didn't really pick the Mustang...The Mustang picked me.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I come from a Mopar family. When I was ready to buy a new car in 2002 I wanted a RWD muscle car. Mopar had absolutely nothing. My father in law is a Ford salesman, so naturally that was my next step. I've been a Ford man ever since. Well at least for now.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I was never into Mustangs until 1991 when one of my best friends told me he was going to buy one. Of course, back then you had the 3 different bodystyles to choose from.

So after a year of roaming car lots, I bought an '89GT. I just loved the full body GT's look. My best friend still hadn't bought a Mustang yet, and after I brought mine home for him to see, the very next day he went out an bought a '90 LX.

From then on I was hooked on the Mustang. I traded my '89GT in on a brand new '93GT. Kept and modified the '93GT until 2001 when I read rumors of the Mach 1 possibly being built again. Sold my '93 GT and in 2004 bought my '04 Mach 1.

I haven't really liked the look of the Mustang from '05 onward, but if I can buy one more before I die it'll be a '13 Boss 302.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I was 100% GM over Ford/Mopar for almost 40yrs. The bail out thing and low quality got the best of me in 2008-09

In 00, wife had a Firebird, I had a z28, and we had 2 car seats. So, I gave up the z28 for a 4 door Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Over the next 10 yrs, we had a Grand Am, Grand Cherokee, Silverado, and 2 honda vans. Got in the position to have a fun car so I went to looking for 99-01 z28s/Trans Ams. I found a 00 Trans Am that was absolutely beautiful. Took it for a test drive, went to show my wife at her work. I looked at her and said, "You re not going to believe this but this thing is killing my back."

A friend of mine has a 95 GT that I have ridden in countless times and even on a long trip. I just got to thinking that it didnt hurt my back, so I went to looking. Shortly after I found the Mach.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I grew up in a ford family. My dad and uncles all owned a ford products and would only buy their wives (mom and aunts) ford product cars. Even my granddad and grandma owned ford vehicles. Of course growing up I actually liked other types of vehicles but once I got to ride in my cousin 97 cobra and my other cousin 98 GT I was hooked. I had to have a mustang afterwards. Once I got my first car an 89 mustang LX 5.0 there were no turning back after that.

FORD MUSTANG FAN FOR LIFE!!!

Both of my parents had fox body 5.0 GT's when I was growing up. And then in high school my friends all had them and lightnings etc. I guess you could say it was inevitable.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

Actually in the 90's I grew up a big fan of imports. At the time they were kicking the hell out of the american cars (supra, 300zx, 3000GT VR-4, eclipse turbo, m3's, AMG mercs etc). I know a lot of you guys loved the 5.0 fox bodies and F body chevy's, but there was a HUGE divide between those and the pacific muscle cars of the 90's.

Ended up getting into the mach for a few reasons:

1) Bang for your buck

2) Great platform to customize exactly how I want it

3) Parts aren't too expensive

4) The 4v 4.6 is one of the best sounding engines ever made imo

5) It's different, you don't see them very often

6) Reliable N/A motor is great for the track

Best decision I've made buying the mach. I've had a blast with it so far and I've got a long way to go in terms of getting the car where I want it to be.

Sure, the interior is cheap, its basically a parts bin car, it can't go around a corner to save its life with stock suspension, but it has character and puts a smile on my face every time. Its got personality and that x factor you can't quite put your finger on. Its also got the best loud pedal out there

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I've always been an American muscle car fan. All of them. My two favorites were the 70 Chevelle 454 LS6 (and 396 variety) and the 69-70 Boss 429's. I also loved the AAR and 426 Cuda's. AMX, Mopar, GM...all of them. When it was time to buy my first car, I bought a 76 Cutlass (because low funds LOL) and put 275/50's out back and some air shocks for that raked look LOL. Anyway, my second car was an 84 Z28 and I loved that car. It seemed like I could never find a Camaro in a stick. After deciding I needed to buy something brand new, I bought a 90 Ford Ranger ext cab with a 5spd. I loved that truck. I've always liked Ford muscle cars, but it wasn't until I actually owned a Ford that I decided they were my favorite manufacturer of cars. To me, all the Fords had the best interior, even back in the muscle car era. In 92, I bought a Mustang GT 5spd and that was it for Camaros LOL. I still like the classics and 82-92's, but I've hated the styling since. I still like them as American muscle cars, just not over Ford Mustangs. Though I like the styling better now, I didn't like the 94-98 Mustang body style. 99 - 04 was an excellent look IMO. Maybe one of my favorite Mustang body styles to date. I just didn't have the funds at that time in my life to buy one new

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I really did not have a dad into cars or a grandpa that was, I drove my buddies 2000 GT and after that was looking at a 98 Camaro Z28 auto and a 01 mustang manual. I wanted a manual so I passed up on the Z28 and the mustang has almost always been a daily driver for me and then there is a family car. I did try the 02 TA out but it was auto and it just felt werid being in a F-body and not in a mustang, so then I came back to the Mustang and I feel right at home. I am not just straight Ford guy, I really like all of them and some imports, I just feel right when I'm in a mustang.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

My Dad always drove Ford trucks and cars, nothing fancy, we couldn't afford toys back then, but he always talked about how awesome his buddies 71 Fast Back was and I was always looking at Mustangs as the car I wanted. They were relatively cheap to buy and cheap to modify. I was driving an 81 Mercury Cougar at the time and drove past a used carl ot and saw a 71 Mustang Coupe.
Drove in and traded that day. Been a Mustang owner with the exception of six months without since.
I'll never go without again.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I've always been a Chevy guy, and still am, kinda. I've got a 78 Malibu with a 355 sbc that runs low 12's, and I'm working on a solid roller 408 that I'm hoping will put me in the 10's naturally aspirated. I've had many Chevy trucks and a Dodge too. Really though, I love American muscle, period. I love pretty much anything from the muscle car era, even the AMC stuff. The Mach 1 was an impulse buy, and I've enjoyed it for the most part. I would love to own a Terminator or maybe a GT/CS. I am currently building an 89 coupe that will have a mild 302/t5 combo. I also have an 86 T-top car. I love the 4 eye cars. Anything fast and American is cool to me. I'd love to have a new Challenger and a new Camaro too, but that is way beyond my income. Maybe if I finish all my cars and then sell them all, I might have enough for a down payment. lol.

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

I was 18 years old in 1984 and I was a Chevy guy. I wanted a new Camaro bad. Well my cousin bought a new 1984 mustang gt. He went to the beach for the weekend and left the keys with his younger brother that was the same age and me. So that weekend his brother took me out for a ride to show me what it would do. The next day I started looking for one and less than a week I had my first new 1984 mustang gt. I been hooked every since. I have owed 7 mustangs since 1984 and have 2 now a 04 mach 1 and 1984 gt350 and I have got my son hooked too he has a 2014 gt/cs

Re: What made you choose a Ford Mustang over others

When I was 13 my cousin bought a Brown 73 Mach 1 and her boyfriend (now husband 20+ years) had a White 73 Mach 1. That began my love affair with the Mach 1s. When I started to drive it was Fords, then I found the Dodge Shelby's so I took a break from Ford for a few years. After having a Daytona Iroc for a few years I decided I wanted something faster and rear wheel drive. At the time the only thing Dodge offered was the Viper which was way out of my price range so I turned towards the Camaro and Mustang. The Mustang felt more solid than the Camaro so I bought a new 96GT. Then traded it for a 99GT. After a few years I traded the 99 for a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited (I really miss it) which was traded in 2004 for the Mach 1 which has kept me planted with Ford since.
