Front Bumper Upgrade Options

Hey guys,

I'll be having a new front bumper installed soon and had a question. Is there company that produces/carries an upgraded version of the OE bumper? What I mean is, is there a bumper out there that's more robust or anything? Thanks!

Was just reading about these and apparently they are next to impossible to find! Really torn on that bumper versus the stock bumper, too. Looks way better but I like the idea of keeping the car somewhat original.

I prefer the stock bumpers - front and back, but I have to admit, the 01 Cobra bumpers look great on the Mach's.

Re: Front Bumper Upgrade Options

03/04 COBRA. DO IT NOW!

Now that I've gotten that outta the way, you don't want a... robust... bumper really. When it comes to your bumper vs parking spot stops, large dead animals, random steel pipe on the road, whatever, your bumper will never win. So, you actually do want one that appears flimsy. It won't beat those random obstacles by being durable, so if it's flexible instead it'll bump them and keep on keeping on, just with a scratch or two at worst(hopefully). Obviously there will be minor variations in durability between companies, but as a whole they should be all roughly the same, same material to same material.

Haha I love the '03/'04 Cobra bumpers but am wanting to stick with a somewhat stock appearance. And you raise a good point. I guess I'll just go OE.

Re: Front Bumper Upgrade Options

I been thinking about putting on a Cobra front bumper. Is the swap easy? How much will the correct light setup cost me?

Re: Front Bumper Upgrade Options

99-01 is a straight swap and fog lights hook right up. 03/04 youll need the pigtail harness to wire in for the foglights. Not too sure on fitment. Im running the 01 bumper

Are you familiar with the ones that are always for sale on Ebay? Are those reproductions?

Re: Front Bumper Upgrade Options

I went 03-04 Cobra due to the need for the front heat exchanger opening, I think it looks great as well as functional.

Amen! I replaced mine with an 03 Cobra 5 years ago and was kind of shocked at the flex. Till I hit a couple of things and had no damage. Happy camper!
