What oil filter?

Are you running a Synthetic oil filter?
I have a 2004 and can't seem to find the correct oil filter.
Sometimes it says a filter will fit. Then another place says it won't.
What number filter are you running and does it say Synthetic on it?
Thanks

Re: What oil filter?

I've used the motorcraft ones, but also used many times the K&N oil filter. Never had a problem with either of them.

Re: What oil filter?

I've used the K&N many times over the years without a problem. Last fill, I went with a Mobil 1 (M1-210A) because I read an article on Consumer Reports about their quality compared to all the others and it was dubbed best. I didn't notice any difference, so I tried an Amsoil (EA011) the most recent fill and didn't notice a difference there either. I'll probably just go with the Motorcraft FL-820S this summer when I change the oil. I just want a consistent quality built filter and I feel like Amsoil, Mobil 1, and Motorcraft will meet that need compared to others out there.

unless you're doing an oil analysis after each change I don't think you're going to "see" a difference, especially not in a single change interval. It would be one of those things over the life of the vehicle wear may end up being accelerated or you have a filter failure and lose a motor.

Re: What oil filter?

I haven't been on here in a while, so catching up.
On my Mach1 (which is a built/forged/supercharged/E85 combo), I use either the Ford FL820S or the shorter Mobil 1 M1-210A.
Either will work just fine.
The Mobil 1 filter is slightly shorter and installs easier in my application as it clears my K-member support better than the FL820.
