What to do before getting SuperCharged

Other than the normal "bolt-ons" what other performance mods can be done before making that giant step to a SC?

Re: What to do before getting SuperCharged

if I had to do it all over again I think Id have gone straight for the kill with the blower instead of buying little stuff for small gains all over the place.

you could always start putting together a suspension thatll work better at either the drag strip or the road course...whatever it is youre going for along with beefing up the chassis

Re: What to do before getting SuperCharged

What you need to do is upgrade your fuel. If you plan to supercharge the stock motor for awhile then get some 39 lb/hr cobra injectors and an svt focus fuel pump. You are also going to want a bigger MAF. A lightning 90 mm MAF is a good start and is cheap. If you dont have exhaust yet then get a mid pipe and catback of your choice because you are going to want the better flow for a supercharger. Those are the basics you will want to do in order to prepare for it.

Agreed but you can also get a Diablo MaFia that will allow you to keep your stock MAF in place. The Mafia extends the range of your stock MAF.You can either get a Focus Fuel Pump or another popular one is the FORD GT pump both are about the same price from Ford. If you do not already have one I would invest in a handheld tuner because it will be helpful to you down the road with uploading your custom tune! Also depending on the condition of your current clutch I would recommend upgrading it as well to handle the new amount of power and torque! Especially if you like doing burnouts!!!!!

Re: What to do before getting SuperCharged

id just let the current clutch become toast first before i upgraded it... thats just my opinion.. unless theres some sort of domino effect that could happen when the clutch goes that could be real costly that i dont know about.

DSG2003Mach1 made a great point

The hand held tuner is a must.. but before (if ya dont have one already) ya get one id first locate and choose which shop is going to tune your mach after install. Some shops only use the diablo and some use the sct. Ya dont want to go buy a diablo and than realize theres only one good tune shop in a 100 mile radius that utilizes the sct software

Re: What to do before getting SuperCharged

sig says tuned by aed so pretty sure he has a tuner already

if you run a mafia you dont need to splice wires on the maf harness to reach the fenderwell

adding midpipe wouldnt hurt

could always add a converter...just depends on what you want from it

He said it right here. Tons of little bolt on's all over the place is a waste of money IMO. They get very expensive and offer little gain. Just throw the supercharger kit on it and call it a day.

i wouldn't waste my money on the basica bolt ones, just get the s/c and don't waste your money on the other stuff that your not going to need when you do the s/c

the exhaust is good ideal for sure

going ahead and gather your fuel stuff

also instead of wasting money on those parts your not going to need
build the rear end up
suspension parts

Re: What to do before getting SuperCharged

I forgot that there is also an aftermarket TB on there, AccuFab (which I got real cheap). Was thinking about selling the stock TB but not sure if I should hold onto it for now...

I have been thinking about getting the mid-pipe but deciding on whether to get that after the BIG money drain

Re: What to do before getting SuperCharged

I think there is a common misconception that you need to do all the bolt on's before a power adder. If a catback, midpipe, or other bolt on was such a significant restriction than you would see GT500s getting 50whp from a catback or midpipe. Which isn't the case. If Ford can make a high horsepower car while meeting the strict emission rules and having 10 cats on the car, and closed air box, then there really isn't much benefit to it.

You'd be better off boosting it and throwing an additional pound or two of boost than doing all the bolt ons.

I think its part of a marketing/advertising scheme. People spend 1000s a piece on bolt ons. And before you know it your like wow I spent a lot of money, with no return.

Depends how he drives it though. If he takes care of it, and doesn't hit WOT all the time and shift it hard he'll be okay. And if he gets a safe tune.

However, if you abuse it, and don't get a good tune. Prepare for a new transmission, new rear end, and new engine. Potentially more haha.

Re: What to do before getting SuperCharged

Maybe a compression check or something to make sure the motor is healthy before putting boost to it

Agreed! Like anything else it's all in how heavy your foot is, how good your tuner is or how much track time you are going to see. The more you beat on it the more things are going to break. Knock on wood I have been driving boosted now on the stock bottom end for over 50k and I am still using the stock clutch and stock rear end! When in doubt don't go for dyno numbers go for a safe tune!
