Question Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

I went to the dealer ship to look at my Mach 1 that I bought last week, it just got safetied and fluids and filters changed. I won't be getting it delivered until later this week due to the weather we are experiencing here in southern Ontario. I just had to go and see it again. What I noticed different about this 2003 Mach 1 was the side emblems show GT not the standard pony emblem. Is that something that was added later or were there a special package you could get with the order?
Also, it did not have rear floor mats, were they just removed or did it not come with rear floor mats? This Mach has the stock 17" rims with BF Goodrich G force tires. On the center caps is SVT not the ponies. Would they have been replaced also or were they part of a package. The rest of the vehicle looks all stock. Just wondering what I have bought is it all stock or not. Your input would be appreciated.

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

2003 was tri-bar pony badging only. The center caps are'nt stock either. Maybe it was a Canadian thing. Like the old Fox bodies were Cobra GT's in Canada. (?)

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

Are you sure its a REAL Mach1? They dont come with "GT" on the side. 2003 Mach 1's have the pony on the side, 2004's have the 40th Annivers emblem. When I got my 04 Mach, it didnt have floor mats, some just dont bother to buy them or just take them out because nobody LOVES to sit in the back of a mustang lol. As for the Centercaps, they are aftermarket. The Mach 1's stock wheels come with the pony in the center cap, regardless of the year.

Correct, I'd be checking that vin. number right away. Don't know why someone would change to a GT badging. Hopefully the vin. has the R, then pull off those GT emblems and get the tri-bar badging.
Oh yea, congrats on the new Mach.

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

Yes, it is definitely a Mach 1. It has a vin of
1FAFP42R03F420549. Not sure why the previous owner would have changed from the the tri bar Pony badge to the GT. Maybe he didn't like the look of the Pony badge because he removed the side badges and wheel center cap pony badges. He left the grill pony though. But the rest of the car is definitely Mach 1. I guess I could change them back if I find a couple tri bar pony badges.
Thanks for your input. I will post some pics once I get her home this week in the intro thread.

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

The other thing you mentioned is the BFG tires, and they are also not OEM. All Machs came with the Goodyear ZR45 Gatorbacks, in 245/45ZR17 size. They're usually good (or as good as they got) for about 25k miles.

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

No accidents, the carfax and Oasis report were clean. The tires kind of confused me because of the mileage. It has 48000 km which is about 30000 miles, but if the stock Goodyear are only 25000 tires maybe he had them changed. The BF Goodrich are about 20 % wore.
One of the thoughts I had were maybe the side badges got stolen. Are they an item that is targeted by thiefs?

Never heard of someone stealing side emblems lol. But its always a possibility. Is there anyway you can talk to the dealer and get some info on the previous owner just to ask about the car? You will most likely not be able to, but doesnt hurt to ask.

Just change the badges and leave the tires alone.

Done.

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

Yes, they came with FRONT Floor Mats ONLY.
The Side Emblems are not stock, some opted and put the 4.6 Liter emblems on or some other varitions of side eblems, but definately not a GT emblem.
No SVT emblem in the center cap. They were NOT produced by SVT, even thought some people (dealers) thought they were. Just the running horse emblem in the wheels.

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

Hey congrats on the Mach.

I still love mine.

3 out of 4 gaterbacks (used one on my GT when I lost a wheel) are in my garage on the factory rims, took them off my Mach @ between 8 - 10k kms of use.
4 wheel drift on the 427 was good enough for a replace.

You got a cool car and hope we can meet up some time in the summer of 2010.

Ya there's someone here with a GT, but he's got a shaker hood, svt wheels, a cobra badge on the front fenders and then there's still the GT badge on the center of the trunk.... WTF!?! It bothers me a little lol

There's a black on around here like that, except it's a V6 car.

Re: Pony or GT Emblem on sides of 2003 Mach 1

Thanks for all the input. I will be getting it this week and will take some pics and post them. The dealer would not share any information with me when I was making the offer. I doubt they will be helpful when I call tomorrow. My intentions will be to replace the GT badges on the sides with the stock Tri bar ponys. The GT doesn't make any sense to me.
I will be leaving the SVT center caps for now because I want to put custom rims and tires on when the BFG's get more wore.
I hope the weather clears up here soon, it is killing me not to be able to drive it. No test drive because of the snow and salt on the roads. It hasn't been winter driven and was kept in the showroom all winter. I spent most of Saturday with her in the shop at the dealership. I got to start her up after a fresh oil change and battery charge. She sounds good and was just wanting to break out of her stable.

No offense but the dealer would ve shared information with me or I wouldve walked. And I m not buying a car I cant drive.

As far as the emblems on the fenders, I can understand changing them. The 03 looks too much like a V6 car when you look at the fenders. If there werent 2 holes behind em, I think I would remove them from my car.

As much as I would like to be able to drive a car before I purchase it sometimes you just don't get the chance. If I had been like that I wouldn't have ended up with my Mach. Lived in Tx and bought it off ebay from a guy in California. Flew out and picked it over the weekend. The guy picked me up early sat and brought me to the bank to make sure the check cleared so I rode in it, but didn't drive it until I handed over the check. Turned out great for me but I can understand thats not always the case. Would have made me a little more weary had the car had more then the 8k miles on it though.

OP....congrats on the purchase, the machs are great cars. Treat her well and you'll have years of enjoyment to come. We will be waiting for the pics to come!
