So, I figure you own the car and you ought to know so 180 HP it is. Oh by the way, nice 85 GT you have there.
Thanks, I like find a mint cont. stock 85GT auto. black with sun roof with low miles some where

The 5.0 2V started with a staggering 157 hp in '82. For '83 the 5.0 got a 4V carb and an addtional 30 hp. Ditto for the 4V/5 speed car in '84, with the auto cars being 175 or so hp. For the '85 model year, the jump was to 210. These are all figures from the Ford sales brochures, with the exception of the '82 number which is sered into my brain since I did have one, and it was in the ads as well. For '94 the figure was 210, down from a high of 225 that was quoted from '87-on to '93. The debut of the 4.6 kept the 215 horse rating, until '99 when the jump was to 260 for the SOHC cars. What's even more telling is that it is very difficult to find factory ratings quoted in the '80's, as if horsepower was a dirty word. Now it's plastered everywhere...how things change!

Complication of simple things!

For today; Say you had a Mustang, and it needed paint work. Your Mustang requires not only the approval of the paint manufacturer, but the Federal Gov't as well. When all is said and done the unused paint is even taken by the manufacturers representative. What kind of Mustang do you have?

1996 Cobra coupe with Mystic paint. This paint was developed by GAF and was a $815 option. It was available on the Cobra coupes only. A total of 1,999 were sold with this paint option.

Please explain why that paint is so regulated and what was so special about its "looks". Thanks

The Mystic paint developed by GAF was a combination of colors that show themselves from different angles. The green, purple, blue, and black hues reacted in different ways to the lighting conditions at any given time.

Don't know all the ins and outs of the use of this paint as it related to regulations however, I know it was a very GAF proprietary paint formula. Hope this helps some, maybe someone else can tell you more.

Thanks - I have seen many cars around Houston with the "after market" paint jobs that change color. Quite an interesting site. I think part of the concern is that if the car is used in a crime it would be difficult for some people to identify - not sure.

FYI - In case you were not aware, for 2004, a total of 1,000 Cobra coupes and convertibles will be offered with the MystiChrome appearance package, which includes color-shifting exterior paint. This is not the exact same paint used in the 1996 Cobra coupes but does share the color changing qualities.

The car’s color changes from topaz green to cobalt blue to royalpurple, and finally to deep onyx black as the viewing angle changes.
The color-shifting theme also applies to the interior, which has matching MystiChrome leather trim on the seat inserts and steering wheel.

The reason for the regulation for the paint is that it was proprietory to the U.S. Gov't (via BASF) as it was the type of pigmentation used to give paper money the same color change aspects as you see on the 'Mystic' car. Things have progressed in money as well as paint technology, and there are cheaper 'flip flop' paints out there now but not the same coloration as the Mystic. Also, there was advertised a Mystic Gold for the never produced '00 Cobra.

As goofy, silly, or insane as it may sound, the Ford GT was secretly developed under the code name "Petunia"!

You're thinking right. George Barris created the first Batmobile from the Lincoln Futura show car, and then built 3 more replicas, including one for drag racing exibitions.

For today; On the '64 1/2 to '66 Mustang (excluding Shelby), if you wanted a tach or clock, what was the name of the option you had to order and where did it place those items?

The "Rally Pac". There were three different versions of the tach part, one for six cylinder cars, one for non-hi-po 289 V-8's and one for hi-po 289 (271 hp, solid lifters) V-8's. Also early and over the counter 'Rally Pacs' had those words stamped on them, later factory pieces were plain.

I don't remember 'Colorado' being used, although there was a 'High Country Special' done for the Denver region. The GT/CS or 'California Special' was done in '68 and featured many 'Shelby' features. There were also 'Twister Specials', 'Sidewinders', as well as a few '70 Pace cars for a series of Nascar tracks. One of these cars is located very close to me and is yet to be restored.
