Fog lights don't work

so awhile back i was installing my gauges, well i know i kinda half *** it. but i hook my gauges lights to the fog lights, well i had a spark happen and ever since then the fog lights don't work, wonder what i need to replace to get em to work, if it will be something simple or something major. i just don't know. electrical is my weak part when it comes to cars. i was thinking bout running a different power source to it so they start working again, but wanted to get it working like factory i'm hoping someone can direct me in the right path. thanks

Re: Fog lights don't work

just so you don't say try this, i already replace the fog light bulb to see if they might have burned out, that was not the case, that is the only trouble shoot i got, i may if not one can help me out, i may go ahead and wire it to the parken brake lights, so when they are on the fog lights come on, just wanted to do it right and get back to normal. thanks

Re: Fog lights don't work

Did you check to make sure the wires you spliced had good contact? If not that then I don't know. Good luck.

Re: Fog lights don't work

find yourself a test light. They are mans best friend. You have to check if their is electricity getting there. If not check all fuses with test light. If not go check behind the switch if your getting power. If your getting power behind the switch then your switch has gone bad.

I thought dog was mans best friend LOL, well i forgot to add that the light for the fog light button still glows up when you press it, also i'll get a light tester for it and see what i can do. talk to my ford mech buddy, he said it could be so much stuff for that area, may just rig it to the parkin brakes when they come on so do the fog lights. i like em to come on.

thanks guys for the help any more suggestion i will take to try, thanks

Re: Fog lights don't work

Everyone has pretty much already stated the basics: fuses, switch, connections. If those all check out, then all I could think of is a wrong connection (power/live wire to ground) or your live wire being exposed somewhere and rubbing up against a piece of metal that produces a ground current. I don't know if Ford used them (kind of doubt it), but there are also these things called fuse-able wire. They look like a piece of wire but have an integrated fuse inside. If so, it could have burnt out. Try my method, this allows you to draw current from an alternative source. Keep us updated.

Re: Fog lights don't work

to be honest i'll prob just do it how you just did and see if that works. if not i'll rig up something. also do alittle trouble shooting that guys have before i do the finally thing to it. won't be pretty but it will get em to work again, i don't like to just rig stuff togather, but we will see and i'll post if it fixes the prob be a few months got to get home from deployment

I’d just have to reiterate on checking the fuses again. Not just eyeballing them. I had a problem a while back and my power mirrors didn’t work, which I didn’t really notice since once adjusted they stay set, and my rear tail lights. Of course everybody and his brother would comment on my tail lights at night going down the road at every red-light. My brakes lights, turn signals, and emergency flashers worked fine but at night using my headlights, my tail lights would not come on. All the fuses looked okay when I pulled them out doing a visual quick. Then I got one of those testers that’s makes a buzzing sound and went through both fuses boxes again (under the hood and under the dash). I found not one but two blown fuses. When I looked the fuses up in the owner’s manual, sure enough it said “Tail-lights” and the other was the remote control for the side mirrors. Changed out both fuses and everything has worked fine since. Don’t trust your eyes, get a tester.

And if you try my method and it doesn't work, you could try rerouting the ground wire as well. I only rerouted the power wire because that was all that was necessary.

yea i'm going to prob just try it your way, as i stated it was while i was hooking the gauges lights up to the fog lights and it when out. couple wires hit each other and then Fog lights no go, really pissed me off cuz i love my fog lights on when its kinda getting dark and have them on but not the headligths, i think its sexy looking. lol

well i'm for sure going to try how you hooked your up and that might just fix the problem, i'll make sure to update this when i get home and let ya'll know, just really hard to do anything from iraq
